Madonna Rocks Motown With Her ‘MDNA’ World Tour

The main reason for my quick trip home to Detroit this week, in addition to seeing some beloved BFFs, was to see Madonna perform at the Joe Louis Arena in downtown Detroit on her hometown stop of the MDNA World Tour. As you may recall, I was lucky enough to see Maddy in San Jose and LA, CA last month but this Detroit show was NOT to be missed. It was a bygone conclusion that my best friend Sarah was going with me to the show but what to do with the third ticket. We decided to surprise Sarah’s mom and bring her to the show with us … and we had a blast. Check out photos and video below from last night’s fun.

The show was, of course, really spectacular as I knew it would be … Sarah and Nina loved the show as well. This time around, I saw the concert a bit farther away from the stage and honestly, I didn’t mind the new perspective at all. Joe Louis Arena is pretty small so there wasn’t a bad seat in the place.

Here is video of Madonna giving her usual mid-show speech, she used the opportunity to praise the reelection of President Barack Obama:

Altho Michigan is a Blue State that voted for Obama, there were audible boos in the crowd when Maddy started praising the president. She didn’t care tho, she handled it all perfectly. Once she started praising Detroit itself, the boos turned to cheers and the lovefest was back on track. Here is video shot by PITNB reader David of Madonna’s finale performance of Celebration / Give It 2 Me:

As you can see, Madonna was wearing one of those cool OBMA shirts. I loved it!

Last night’s Madonna concert wasn’t the first for me or Sarah … nor was it the first for her mother Nina. Sarah and I saw the Drowned World Tour with Nina and her sisters back in the 00’s and Sarah’s mom took her to the Blonde Ambition Tour back in the early 90’s. Yes, Nina is a cool ass mom :)

Alas my visit home is almost at an end. I fly back to LA early tomorrow morning ahead of my half marathon race in Malibu, CA on Sunday. I hope all y’all have a great weekend! I’ll be flying and running so, woo hoo, to that :) Happy Friday!!
