Michael C. Hall Talks ‘Dexter’ Season 7 And The Finality Of Season 8

The 7th and second to last season EVER of Dexter is already half over but so much has already happened on the show. Michael C. Hall sat down with Crave Online to talk Dexter season 7 and some of the final season due out next year. If you are all caught up on Dexter, then this interview is a spoiler free MUST READ. Want to know what MCH thinks of the season thus far? Want to know how he thinks the whole show will end next year? Read on.

CraveOnline: Did you know that Debra would eventually learn about Dexter’s Dark Passenger years ago?
Michael C. Hall: Well, I think from the beginning we all imagined that if the show lasted beyond a certain point that it was in the cards. There’s too much tension there for that dam not to eventually break and create the new tension that it’s created. In the pilot episode, when we’re getting to know Dexter and his world and he talks about his sister, this is pilot episode Dexter, but he says, “If I could feelings at all or for anyone, I’d have them for Deb.”

CraveOnline: What did you think when you read [Deb’s] development last season, exploring romantic feelings for an adopted brother?
Michael C. Hall: I think she’s someone who’s been looking for answers to maybe questions that she hasn’t even been able to quite ask. In a way I think whatever feelings she came into awareness of, you could argue that they had something to do with those unanswered questions, questions that have been answered this season. Certainly her feelings about her brother are going to change a bit now that she knows what she knows.

CraveOnline: Did it also occur to you that it could be taboo, even with an adoptive sibling relationship?
Michael C. Hall: Sure, but I don’t think we’re doing a show that’s really shied away from taboos. It’s sort of a taboo to begin with.

CraveOnline: Showtime’s already talking about leaving it open past season eight. Do you think there’s a definitive end next season?
Michael C. Hall: It’s a difficult thing to say anything beyond the shadow of a doubt but all signs point to the final episode of the eighth season being the final episode of the show.

You can read the full text of the interview HERE. It’s a really interesting read. The interviewer asked a lot of great questions and MCH gave a lot of great answers … all while managing to not spoil the show. I really do hope that they end the show with the final episode of season 8. If they’re gonna end it, they should end it. I understand the temptation of keeping the story open so that they can go back to it if need be but … I think a story like Dexter’s needs to come to a finish. I am really loving this season and I can’t wait to see how it will end. My guess is that the end of season 7 will make us really yearn for the start of season 8. Will this season’s ending be bigger than last season’s finale? Doubtful but I can’t wait to find out.

It had been said that Season 8 is the last one. They were talking about the possibility of having an open ending for the series rather thana definitive one.

I was thinking the same thing as Isabelle, but maybe MCH had something else in mind. Who knows? HP is over but Harry didn’t die…

I’m loving this season too. Deb was getting on my nerves, but I’m trying to be as understanding as I can be. lol I would also rather have a definitive ending. I truly hope they find a way to blow our minds.

I’m glad they are making the decision to end it on their own terms, and not waiting for the audience to completely lose interest before doing so. Personally, I’m not quite sure how I feel about the current season. It hasn’t grabbed me yet.

I agree, this season so far has been boring to me and convoluted. This show has gotten really bad in the last few years. I’m thinking after the Trinity Killer they really haven’t had much direction. I wish it was ending this year, I’m so sick of him talking to his dead father lol
