Christina Aguilera may be about to drop a new album, but when she attended Thursday’s 2012 Film & TV Music conference, and took some time to talk about getting back into film. However, she’s not looking to take on a traditional role and actually said that she’d be interested in playing a “crackhead” and/or a “drug addict.” This has, naturally, been making headlines, although I’m not sure why. Starting out as a drug addict on film is not always a bad way to break into the industry! Click inside to read more of what Xtina has to say about her movie star aspirations.
E! has the story:
“I do want to do more acting,” Xtina explained when conversation turned to her film,Burlesque. “I want to do something where I can really sink my teeth into something a little more challenging. Really outside of myself, outside of music.”
And Christina already knows what kind of controversial part she’s ready to take on.
“I sort of had this personal aspiration to do film, but I said, ‘I never want to do a musical! It’s too much like myself,” Christina recalled on her mentality before taking on the glitzy movie-musical costarring Cher.
After garnering fairly positive reviews for that role, she’s ready for a change: “I want it to be honest and genuine in expanding my wings and doing something really, really different. A crackhead on the street or a drug addict. Or something crazy and meaty and juicy. Something that really took me out of myself.”
And it might not be as hard for her to tap in to a dark side. “It’s hard being such a powerful woman in the business. I’m known for not always being, kind of,” she pondered before laughing. “I learned early on you can’t always be warm and fuzzy because you’ll be bulldozed right over.”
Now I never saw Burlesque, but Trent said that Christina did okay. If Xtina wants to go the dark route, she could totally hop on board some awesome low-budget indie project to get some street cred in the industry, lol. And plenty of fine actors have started out as “crackheads,”… shouts-out to Halle Berry and Samuel L. Jackon!
What do you guys think of Christina‘s announcement? Do you see her going gritty on-film? We all know she can get Dirty when she wants to, so why not?

i thought she did great in Burlesque. i would love to see her in a darker role, i think she would do great.
I think she did great in Burlesque as well! I’m definitely up for seeing Miss Xtina in a new role.
Whenever an actor gets interviewed for a role, you always hear them say how it all kind of organically came together. They read the script, the timing was right, they did a screen test, and it all just clicked. But it’s not like they were pining to be the next serial killer on film.
So this is an interesting take. Christina wants to be a crackhead on screen. Because it will give her lots of cred, be really dark and gritty, and be completely edgy and cool, which are all aspirations I suppose. Good luck to her. I think it’s never a good idea to announce these things though (that you want a particular role) since the whole thing might read “stunt casting” if she does get cast as a crackhead in the future.
If she has to say it, then she should just probably stop there. But I guess you can’t just say you want to play a crackhead and stop there without giving your reasons. Her reasons seem a bit self-centered though, which while honest, kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
It’s like I want my next role to be a child rapist, because think of how meaty and challenging such a role would be for me.
I want my next role to be as a gay person, because that’s such a hot topic right now and look at the press that Brokeback Mountain generated.
I want to play someone struggling to overcome mental retardation, because I think it would be just completely dark and gritty and something I can sink my teeth into.
It just doesn’t work in any case. You end up sounding shallow. So unless the role is personally meaningful to you, you should probably just not announce your desire for it. Quietly go for the audition, nail the part, and then blow all our minds Christina.
She’s always originally said she’d like to do an angelina jolie via girl, interrupted type film but couldn’t pass up the opportunity of doing an entire film about Burlesque.
I think she was great in Burlesque….when she was singing and dancing. The acting was OK, I did cringe a few times much like I did with Britney in “Crossroads” or Mandy Moore in “A Walk to Remember.”
Ten years ago I could see her playing a “crackhead” but now? I’m not so sure.
