Drake Just Graduated From High School!

Mazel Tov!

Y’all can say what y’all want, but this is kind of a big deal! Drake may be 25 years-old, but no matter your age, graduating from high school is awesome. Let’s be real; high school often sucks in at least 32 different ways, and the drop out rate in this country is proof of that (among other things). So congrats to Drake, who recently tweeted that he is officially a high school gradute! Click inside fore deets.

E! has the story:

The rapper (real name Aubrey Graham) recently fulfilled all his necessary school work to officially become a high school graduate.

“97% on my final exam. 88% in the course. One of the greatest feelings in my entire life. As of tonight I have graduated high school,” Drizzy tweeted.

“Thank you to my teacher Kim Janzen for spending the last 5 months working tirelessly with me!! OVO SOUND,” he added.

Drake has been very open to the fact that he hadn’t received his high school diploma through his songs, like in his hit “Crew Love,” where he raps, “I guess we’ll never know what Harvard gets us/ But seeing my family have it all/ Took the place of that desire for diplomas on the wall.”

I know a lot of people are like, whatever, it’s high school. But trust. I know plenty of people who didn’t finish high school; sadly it’s not as easy for some as it is for others. And then– when it comes to celebrities and pop stars– please! Hella celebs never took time out of their lives to go back to school– and why would they? Most of us are taught that education is a means to an end; education is a means to financial success. So if you find another way to be “successful,” you can totally skip the education part.

Personally, I think this is not a great message to send because it implies that education for the sake of education is a ridiculous idea. When really, I think, that should be the main reason people attend school– because learning is effing awesome. But such is not the case, for the most part. So for that reason, I like that Drake finished high school when– based on our standards– he didn’t ‘have’ to.

What do you guys think of the news? Is it strange to think that many of the celebrities we know and lurve (or don’t lurve) most likely haven’t finished high school or gone on to college?

Shannon, agreed! Education in itself is the reward. I’m glad Drake can share that message now to his fans. Same with Mark Whalberg who is working on finishing high school as well.

  2. Good for him!! Aubrey Drake Graham aka Jimmy Brooks, doing the damn thing!

  3. Sam

I’m impressed he actually took the time to do it, even if it is “just high school”. Bonus points for Jimmy!

  4. Congrats Drake… most successful people wouldn’t have taken the time…

It’s ironic that he got his start, playing a high school student… I’m mad he graduated on tv first…lol.. Wheelchair Jimmy Forever! LOL!
