In the past few days we’ve seen new character posters from the forthcoming new adaptation of Les Misérables that feature Jean Valjean (played by Hugh Jackman), Cosette (played by Amanda Seyfried) and Inspector Javert (played by Russell Crowe). Today we get to see the character poster for Fantine, played by Anne Hathaway. Those of you familiar with the Les Miz story know that Fantine’s storyline isn’t a happy one … but it is one of the most poignant parts of the plot and the character performs the most famous song of the musical I Dreamed a Dream. Based on what I’ve seen from the promo trailers, it looks like Anne does an excellent job with the role. Click below to see the poster art in full and get a good look of Fantine looking about as well as she ever looks in the film.
I’m hearing a lot of Oscar buzz around Anne’s performance in Les Misérables so I’m actually really interested in seeing this film. As much as I’m not a Les Miz fan, I do appreciate the power that Fantine’s character holds over the audience. Let’s just say that things don’t really end well for her and it is the poignant nature of her limited time in the story that, for me, makes the most impact on the story overall. I gotta say, Anne impressed me as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises so I have high hopes that she will impress me further in Les Misérables. I can’t wait to find out.
