Bummer news, guys. A little while back we heard reports about The Grand Budapest Hotel, a new Wes Anderson movie that would star Johnny Depp. I thought all (or at least one) of my dreams had come true, but Wes Anderson just did an interview with the Huffington Post denying Johnny Depp‘s involvement. Honestly? It hurts to hear this, ya know? It just hurts. Unfortunate deets inside.
Complex has the story:
When rumors surfaced that director Wes Anderson (Moonrise Kingdom) was looking to cast Johnny Depp in his upcoming movie, The Grand Budapest Hotel, we were hopeful that the actor would finally be forced to move out of his Tim Burton/Disney comfort zone. But sadly, in an interview with The Huffington Post, the director confirmed that Depp isn’t going to be in the film after all.
“You will find that even though I’m very aware of the cast that has been announced on its own devices, you’ll never find me saying who’s in the movie. Or, as far as I know, anybody else,” Anderson told the site. “I really don’t know where it all comes from. In fact, Johnny is somebody who I would love to work with at some point, but he’s not going to be in this movie. But I actually have not put the cast out — I have not announced the cast. We have quite a great cast.”
Thankfully, for Anderson fans, he then confirmed that Bill Murray would indeed have a role in the film, which shouldn’t come as much of a shock.

Well, at least we have Bill Murray, but I kind of assumed that already, lol. Still, the fact that Wes says he’d love to work with Johnny Depp at some point gives me hope and hope is a beautiful thing. Plus, it’s all we’ve got until these two finally decide to collab.
But okay, we do have some good news here! Angela Lansbury has spoken out and confirmed that she is in the movie! Thank the gods! PITNBR Jess joined me in a mini-lurve fest for the woman who brought us Bedknobs And Broomsticks and Murder She Wrote. Jess, here’s what Angela had to say:
I’m playing woman of mystery, it’s minuscule role. I’m on the screen probably for less than 5 minutes…
Okay, five minutes? Who cares? That’s AWESOME! I just know those five minutes will be life-changing… can’t wait! And I can’t wait for the Johnny Depp/Wes Anderson collab that I truly believe will eventually come to the big screen. Until then, we just have to wait… and hope.
