It’s Official! Nicki Minaj And Keith Urban Join Mariah Carey And Randy Jackson As ‘American Idol’ Judges

Back in July we learned that popstar Mariah Carey was officially signed as a new judge on the forthcoming season of American Idol. In the weeks that followed, there was much discussion about who would join her at the judges table. It was immediately reported that longtime original judge Randy Jackson would be demoted from judge to mentor so that the 3 judging spots could be filled with new judges. Nicki Minaj was a name we heard soon after as a potential new judge but her endorsement deal with Pepsi held up her signing because AI is sponsored by Coca Cola. Then we heard that Keith Urban and Enrique Iglesias were being considered as judges but talks with Enrique fell apart. Today we learn, officially, that the cola conflict has been settled and Nicki has signed on as AI judge. Joining her and Mariah at the table will be Keith Urban and … original judge Randy Jackson (who got the 4th judging seat due to the failed deal with Enrique). I had a feeling the Nicki deal would come thru … my guess is that Idol paid off Pepsi to let her join the show and it’s possible that the money they paid to Pepsi *might* have come from her fee to judge the show. I had a feeling that Nicki really wanted this job. Keith Urban, I understand, was an easy get … he didn’t ask for and will likely get paid far less than Mariah Carey. And Yo Dawg Randy Jackson? Well, I know he didn’t want to be demoted and he prolly very HAPPILY signed on as judge when that fourth slot was not filled by Enrique Iglesias. Fox had a deadline to settle the casting and I think that worked in Randy Jackson‘s favor. So, at last, the judging panel of American Idol is set … are you excited?
