Roxette & Roll

The TV Guide

Not much to update on the personal front. I hung out with Emma last night here at home … talked, chilled, scarfed down on some pizza. You know, the good life. Tonight, tho, I actually have to leave the comfort and security of our A/Ced home to venture out in public … because I’m seeing Roxette in concert at the Gibson Amphitheater. Now, I have to say, I’m not the biggest Roxette fan in the world … but back in the early 90′s, when Roxette was a pretty big deal, I was a fan. I guess I couldn’t miss the opportunity to see the band live in concert so … I’m going!

As much as I really prefer the music of the 80′s, I cannot deny that there are some acts from the 90′s that still hold a special place in my heart. I think I would’ve lost my mind if I was able to see Roxette as a youngster back in the 90′s so … I guess for that version of me, I have to go to the show tonight. Other than that, yeah, as I said, I will probably hide out from the blistering 100+ degree heat that raging outside right now. I hope you are having a very nice, very cool Saturday :)

Well, if you reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally wanna get technical, their first 4 big hits (The Look, Dressed For Success, Listen To Your Heart, Dangerous) were released in 1989, so they are kinda 80s… maybe that’ll make it easier to venture out into the inferno known as the valley.

For me, “90s” music began in late 1991 after Nevermind came out and Grunge and Hip Hop started to rule the world. It kinda felt like everything pop and mainstream from 1990 up to that point still had an 80s feel to it. Maybe we should call those music years1980-10 and 1980-11 :-)

    • @DJ — Yes, I guess you are right. The whole 89-90 year is an odd transitional one that could be considered 80′s or 90′s. Alls I know is I’m excited … and the Gibson Amphitheater better have A/C!!!!

  2. I’m jealous. Roxette is underrated, imo. They are very musical and might even be labeled genius. I KNOW you’re going to have a great time. I hear they sound amazing live and put on a good show. Can’t wait for the recap.
