Earlier today we learned that filming production has begun on the forthcoming third season of the HBO series Game of Thrones. Right now we learn that filming production has also begun on another of our fave pop culture obsessions as well. The sequel film The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has begun principal filming in Atlanta, GA this week and none other than Josh Hutcherson (who plays Peeta Mellark) was spotted on set. Click below to see photos of Josh on set and learn some new deets about the forthcoming film.

Its the hit franchise that has won over the much-sought after teen market. And fans got their first glimpse of Josh Hutcherson at work on the set of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire today. Josh, 19, appeared cool and casual in jeans, white T-shirt and flip-flops while on location in Atlanta, Georgia. The hunky actor, muscular and fit from working out, was taking a break between filming scenes, hanging out by his trailer and shooting the breeze with the actors who play the other contestants. Josh looked thrilled to be back in the role of Peeta, who survived the Hunger Games in the first film. His co-star Jennifer Lawrence was also on the set, reprising her role as 16-year-old heroine and fellow Games survivor Katniss. Catching Fire follows Katniss in the futuristic dystopian world, after her win in the televised games where children compete against children to the death, and how she must now deal with the terrible anger of President Snow, played once again by Donald Sutherland. There’s also a love triangle, as Katniss is torn between Peta and her childhood friend Gale, played by Liam Hemsworth. Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks and Lenny Kravitz also reprise their roles, and added cast members include Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amanda Plummer, Jeffrey Wright and Jena Malone. The Hunger Games was this year’s big box office hit, raking in $700 million worldwide. Based on the best-selling trilogy of books by Suzanne Collins, expectations for the sequel that began shooting on Monday are equally high. Fans will have to wait a while before seeing their favorite stars in action. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is set for release on November 22, 2013.

We have WELL over a year to wait before Catching Fire opens in theaters so things are just getting started on the film set. I’m sure in the coming days and weeks, we’ll see more of our fave stars on the movie set. As much as I don’t like to be spoiled before a film comes out, it’s a different matter when the subject matter is based on a book that I’ve already read. I can’t be spoiled because I already know what’s going to happen. While I prolly won’t let myself look at everything, I am very interested in seeing a lot of behind the scenes action from production of the film. It’s cool to see Josh on set again. I can’t wait to see more.
