Minimalist fashion designer Jil Sander debuted her new collection in Milan this week and among her pricey accessories is a plain paper bag that will retail for around $290. That’s right … a plain paper bag … just like the plain paper bags we used to carry our lunches in when we were in junior high school. Because this plain paper bag is “designed” by Jil Sander, the cost for this plain paper bag is a bit higher than we are accustomed to paying for plain paper bags. Click below to see photos of this plain paper bag on the runway and see if YOU think owning one is worth shelling out almost $300.

Brown-bagging it just got a lot more expensive. Or it will, if you carry lunch around this $290 Jil Sander Vasari bag, which “features a long rectangular silhouette and is crafted from coated paper.” In other words, it’s a paper bag – and lot more expensive than any sandwich you might stuff into it. Of course, the designer’s version of the lunch-sack staple is hardly the brown bag we’re used to. The Vasari bag features “visible brown stitched seams at each side and two gold coloured metal eyelets at the bottom.” The words ‘Jil Sander’ are printed in black at the bottom. Fashionistas first spotted the Vasari bag clutched in the hands of male models on the runways earlier this year, but it recently hit stores. According to the designer’s website, the bag is already sold out. Reviewing a black leather version of the bag ($360), W Magazine said the Vasari is “perfectly in sync with the fashion house’s minimalist roots. Forget recycling — this bag is a keeper.”

People, this plain paper bag is already sold out on the Jil Sander website. Folks with nothing better to do with their $300 have already bought up all of the available plain paper bags that were released for sale. I mean … is this real life? Just because a fashion designer decides to charge an exorbitant amount of money for a paper bag, people are falling over themselves to pay that exorbitant price — FOR A PLAIN PAPER BAG.
I honestly cannot with people sometimes :/

Rich people can be such fools sometimes….!
I really don’t understand rich people….
I do not get that. at all.
I wish I had $300 to waste on a paper bag.
sold out…just..wow.
I only want one if it has Snoopy or Garfield on it. I used to rock those lunch bags as a cool 5th grader.
When would you even use this? what happens when it rains? Sometimes you really do think that these people need slapping back to reality
well people pay crazy amounts for shoes and handbags, the next step was obviously this a papper bag.
i actually think it’s quite cool, just over-the-top crazy for that price. i mean, it’d be nice to have a “paper bag” that you can keep on reusing instead of getting a new one each time. if i were super rich, i’d probably just get one for the heck of it. haha.
They are called reusable bags. They come in all sorts of fabrics, sizes, and patterns, and you can pick one up from the Target dollar bin for a steal.
All those times I threw away my paper bags and I could’ve been rich. WHAT?!
Aaaaaand this is why the wealthy should get taxed more than the middle class.
yuppie problems.
Just goes to show how freaking stupid some people are…I’d buy groceries for a month with that $300…that’s just me, a poor folk though. lol.
Seems this would fit perfectly into Mugatu’s Derelique line.
@CB: LOL!!!! Perfection.
I can only think it is satire on Jill Sanders’ part. If so, it’s pretty f-ing funny.
Designers can put their names on the UGLIEST things and people will spend money because its a famous designer. But if they walked by the same damn thing in Marshalls they would call it hideous.
That horrid Virgin Mobile video that plays with every single page load is driving me batty. Can you please switch sponsors or set it to not autoplay? I’m avoiding page clicks already because it is irritating!
Also, can I just say it looks really silly that the men are carrying around a paper bag that looks like a man is carrying his lunch to work. However, it is not surprising at all that it is sold out. Some people want designer goods just for the sake of it and will scoop up the cheapest thing they can grab to look like they are fashionable/rich/etc.
A paper bag for the1 %. I really like the suit the model is wearing, though. I’ve seen really cool paper wallets but are like under $25.
I can’t wait to see how many people we’ll start seeing carrying paper bags, copying this “hot” trend hahahaha
Pathetic.
And here I was thinking, “What can I use to bring my foie gras to work? Something that screams ‘retro’ yet also ‘fashionable’?”
