After promising to bring her MDNA World Tour to Australia this time around, Madonna had to break the hearts of all of her Aussie fans by announcing that she would NOT be bringing her tour to Oz after all. At the time of the announcement, no real explanation was given as to why Maddy would not be touring in Oz for a second world tour in a row … which only added to her Aussie fans’ disappointment. Today we get to hear straight from Madonna herself why she will not be touring down under in a new video/audio message that explains in plain detail her reasoning for not touring in Oz this time around. Undoubtedly, there will be some people who are unsatisfied with Madonna‘s explanation but if you listen to the clip above, I think most reasonable people will understand. This clip is really worth listening to as it shows us a side of Madonna that we don’t usually get to see. I find this clip shows us a very human, very down to Earth Madonna. it sounded very stilted and not very genuine to me unfortunately. i’m not a madonna fan at all, but i have friends who were absolutely gutted by this tour cancellation.
There was a LOT of talk going around that the promoters were in doubt of her ability to draw the crowds needed to make this tour successful. this could be our rubbish media and their typical glass half empty approach to creating a semi scandal, but if there is any truth to the rumours, i can understand why she didn’t bother coming back to Aus.
what does everyone else think? genuine apology, or lip service?? :)
After giving Australia the cold shoulder for 20 years she apologises for canceling on us again after SIX WEEKS and on the day that her Material Girl clothing line is released in stores. How unreasonable of me to think this apology is completely not genuine.
Don’t bother ever coming back Madonna, we don’t want you.
Two words: damage control.
This doesn’t affect me, so I don’t care too much. But being Aussie I am kinda pissed off that someone of her status thinks forking the distance and cost is beneath her. Who gives a heck if they lose money, if you truly cared for your fans when you are the highest earning female entertainer, you will independently take the risk of losing money to perform here. Well, if I had that much money I would.
I don’t want to question her parenting – but seriously, if she was a regular parent like the average Joe, she wouldn’t even be touring Europe or America. That is why celebrities have an entourage, there is nothing wrong with that, they have the money after all. It seems Lourdes is quite capable of looking after herself based on all the paparazzi shots you see of her – and if she came to Australia, I don’t think she is going to be a burden for her Mother, the two kids with Ritchie can always stay with him and the last one can be taken care of Madonna/Entourage whilst she is here, much like they would when she is performing.
All I’m saying is it’s very much possible – it’s quite obviously a business decision. They’re probably wanting more money from local promoters in Australia perhaps. She charges enough as it is for tickets and they sell out – Australian’s are likely more than happy to fork out even more to see her when it’s been over a decade.
