Sam Raimi has been entertaining us for decades and something tells me that he’s just getting started. The director who brought us the unforgettable Tobey Maguire/Kirsten Dunst Spider-Man trilogy also has us all crazy excited for his Wizard Of Oz prequel, Oz: The Great And Powerful. With all of these blockbuster/family friendly-ish films, it’s easy to forget that Raimi started out making cult classic horror movies like the Evil Dead series. In 2009 he returned to his roots with Drag Me To Hell and now he’s producing The Possession, a movie that– based on the trailer– I will most likely be too scared to actually watch, especially since it’s based on a true story. But if one of you comes with, maybe I’ll be able to handle it. Kyra Sedgewick stars in this movie directed by the award-winning Danish filmmaker Ole Bornedal. Peep the trailer and click inside for a mini celebration of the awesomeness that is Sam Raimi!
The Possession hits theatres August 31.
I’m pretty sure Sam Raimi changed your life on at least 17 occasions. Here are 5 of them:
1. He’s the guy who brought us the glory that was Lucy Lawless.
Xena Warrior Princess: Produced by Sam Raimi
2. The Spider-Man 3 black suit? That ish cray.
Spider-Man 3: Directed by Sam Raimi
3. Now I try to avoid horror movies as much as possible, but even I had to see Evil Dead. Whatever you do, don’t search for “the evil dead tree” in Google Images. It’s just a bad idea.
Evil Dead series: Directed by Sam Raimi
4. Don’t act like you weren’t freaking the freak out over this trailer!
Oz: The Great And Powerful (2013): Directed by Sam Raimi
5. If you’re still waiting for someone to hang upside down in your living room and make out with you, then you clearly have some issues…. Shannon. And you have Sam Raimi to thank.
