Ryan Lochte Reveals Plans To Trademark His Catchphrase ‘Jeah’

Make That Money, Honey

Earlier this month we learned that US Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte is lookin’ to expand his career into the world of acting. This week, Lochte filmed a guest appearance on an upcoming episode of 90210. BUT, it turns out that acting isn’t Ryan‘s only new endeavor … it would seem that he is also a bit of an entrepreneur. Lochte already sells a collection of times on his official website emblazoned with his trademark catchprhase Jeah. In order to keep those sales brisk, he has decided to trademark the catchphrase. Yes, for real.

Ryan Lochte’s annoying catchphrase “Jeah!” is a friggin’ GOLD MINE — at least that’s what the swimmer believes … because he just filed docs to lock up a trademark for the made-up word. According to the trademark docs, Ryan wants to use the word on sunglasses, workout DVDs, gift cards, mugs, drinking glasses, trading cards, calendars, posters, swimsuits, swim caps, sports hats, and water bottles. In fact, Lochte’s already getting the party started on his website — selling “Jeah”-themed tees, hats, and sunglasses. According to a 2009 interview, Ryan got the phrase from rapper Young Jeezy, who uses a similar word “Chea!” in his songs. Ryan says he changed it a little to “Jeah!” … and says it means something “good.” The trademark app is still pending.

LOL. I love Ryan, I really do but man … he really isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. I mean, I’m speaking generally as in, he always comes across as a little … erm, dim. BUT, this move to trademark his catchphrase is actually pretty brilliant. If his trademark request goes thru, no one but him will be able to make money from the word. Now, I’m not sure how much of a fortune he’s going to be able to make from selling Jeah items but … gods bless him for going for the gold, er, as it were. Are any of y’all interested in procuring Jeah items? Sunglasses, anyone?

He didn’t make this up, but all the power to him to trademark it. If that pompous ass Donald Trump can trademark “You’re fired!” and Paris Hilton can trademark “That’s hot,” he may as well trademark this.

  5. Am I going to spend money on this a**? Ja-NO. LOL. Oh crap, I can trade mark that………

  6. Just because somebody can swim better then anybody else, doesn’t make them a celeb or anything else…Absolutely fucking absurd
