Alicia Keys wasn’t kidding when she said ‘it’s a new day-ay-aaayyy.’ Indeed it is! While I didn’t love her latest single, I’m kind of getting excited about this new look! And her new album title, Girl On Fire, is starting to make a lot of sense. Remember when she cut her hair a while ago? Well she’s cutting back on some other things as well… like side boob coverage. And I ain’t mad. Checkie out inside!
So there you have it. Now, I’ve seen Alicia looking sexy before (hell, she’s always sexy) but this is on a whole ‘nother level! Between the sheer black dress (it’s a dress, right?) and that dark red lipstick, I’m not sure what to do with myself, lol. I think she looks crazy good.
But considering what we’re used to seeing on her album covers, this is definitely a huge change. When I first saw that she cut her hair, I wondered if her decision was more than just a choice of style. Now I’m wondering if Alicia is trying to reinvent herself. Personally, I didn’t know she needed reinventing, but ok!

Wowzers! She is looking all kinds of amazing. Like you said, she’s always sexy but this picture is AMAZING! Can’t wait for new Alicia music! SO many great new albums coming out over the next few months from many of my favorite artists! I’m gonna be on overload status!
BTW Shannon, thanks again for the posts on Miguel. I’ve bought his first album off of iTunes and am loving it, along with his latest music he came out with.
Brent, thanks for commenting. Please don’t bring up Miguel… I will lose myself in a vortex of his songs for the next 45 minutes and I simply don’t have the time! Lol… Alicia is too much, man. Not fair.

Hmm.. I don’t know how I feel about this. On one side, she probably feels the most confident she has ever felt after becoming a mother & all.
But there is something weird about seeing Alicia like this. Her sexiness previously was about how un-sexy she marketed herself. She had the voice and the surprisingly good looks that made people love her. She didn’t result in displaying herself like this, especially on an album cover, to generate that admiration amongst her fans. Whilst she grew outta that urban look from her early days into more feminine etc. she still controlled that empowerment & confidence.
Good on her either way – but I feel uncomfortable seeing her like this. For some artists, change just doesn’t feel right. I hope she isn’t doing this to stay relevant since her last album was disappointing. She only has to look at Adele (and her back catalog) to realise that the audience really wants talent to be entertained. This seems as odd as seeing Adele posing nude for one her album covers – it just doesn’t FEEL right.
JCZ, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. I agree that this is def strange, but am still in awe at how amazing she looks! But you bring up some good points– what does it mean when an artist suddenly puts out a sexualized image? Like I said, I don’t see Alicia as someone who needs to reinvent herself (or show side boob) to sell records, though I don’t knock her for going that route if she feels compelled to do so.
