Joe Jonas Claims That Taylor Swift’s Newest Break-Up Song Is NOT About Him

"It's not about me"

On Tuesday we got our first listen of Taylor Swift‘s new single and latest break-up song We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together and almost immediately, folks began to wonder who Taylor is singing about in the lyrics of the song. I wondered if the song might be about Jake Gyllenhaal (one of Taylor‘s more famous exes) but there are a lot of ex-boyfriends in Taylor‘s past that could’ve been the inspiration. Another of Taylor‘s more famous exes is Joe Jonas … but according to him, the song is not about their relationship. Click below to read what he has to say about Taylor‘s new song.

Wednesday morning, Joe Jonas told D.C.-based The Tommy Show that, contrary to the rumors, Taylor Swift’s new song — “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” — can’t possibly be about him. And the singer says the reason he’s not the inspiration for sweet little Taylor’s musical wrath is obvious: “It’s not about me, because I don’t think we’ve ever tried another time.” After chuckling with the radio show’s host, Jonas swiftly added: “I like the song. Taylor does pop music really well, and I’m happy for her.” In fact, when asked about whether he keeps in touch with his famous ex, he said he was able to go to a “phenomenal” live show of hers last year. Doesn’t exactly sound like the type of rocky relationship that would bring out an angsty Taylor, does it? Joe also reminds us that the relationship is “years removed;” the pair reportedly dated for less than six months in 2008. We’re going to take Joe’s word for it. Look, the song is about one of those annoying relationships where vows are made to end it all but the couple keeps finding each other. Over and over again.

OK, so the song’s not about Joe … then, who is it about? Let’s take a look at some other possible candidates:

While the singer has dated Twilight’s Taylor Lautner as well as actor Jake Gyllenhaal, there seems to be only one other contender left (after ruling out Joe): John Mayer. Yes! It appears Taylor Swift wrote yet another song about the increasingly shaggy looking musician. After all, Starpulse isolates one lyric in particular that seems to indicate “case closed:” “Hide away and find your peace of mind, with some indie record that’s much cooler than mine.” Unless Taylor’s referring to her ex simply listening to an indie record, in all likelihood she’s singing about another musical artist. With Joe out of the picture (and not exactly “indie”) that only leaves John Mayer. For some reason, Mayer is a heartthrob, and has currently been seen out and about with Katy Perry. Apparently, at least in Taylor’s eyes, Mayer’s also a first-rate asshole. Because it looks like we can now add “We Are Never…” to the collection of Mayer-hating songs — alongside her ode to the scruffy artist, “Dear John.”

OMG, yes … it is very possible that Taylor is singing about John Mayer in this new song. Naturally, we may never know for sure but … well, we do know that Taylor isn’t fond of John anymore and what better fodder to write break-up songs than an ex-boyfriend who happens to be a big jerk. I think this belief that John Mayer is the guy makes perfect sense, do you?

She needs to get over herself. Like Phoebe once said on Friends ” Get out of the bitter barn and play in the hay.” Its over, move on with yourself. Don’t turn into one of those sad old women who are so bitter in there old age because you heading down in that direction fast, girl.

    • She’s using her life to write music. I wouldn’t say she is bitter or not moving on. She seems happy. She uses her relationships as inspiration. Just like basically every other songwriter out there. She just happens to be known for it.

Uhm.. MC you are so off base here. I’ve said this time and time again on here, she wouldn’t write these kind of songs if they didn’t sell well with her target audience! Which obviously is not you.

This is how she makes her money peeps! And if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. :)

why is ok for Adele to write bitter songs about bad breakups but Taylor Swift can’t. Yes, i realize Adeles lyrics are a lot more mature, even though she’s only 2 years older than Taylor, but its the same basic concept behind their music. Taylor is writing what she knows, just like any good artist should. Plus she’s being smart, she knows teenagers listen to her so she’s gonna keep marketing her music to them. Besides, this doesn’t make her bitter. If anything its like therapy for her. where she GETS paid instead of paying some shrink. Smart girl.

    • Lulu is a little girl who doesn't know anything

There’re huge difference between Adele and Taylor is that Adele can actually sing whereas Taylor has a generic voice a la Katy Perry or Rihanna. Adele is more mature as you put it and Taylor lyrics are as an adolescent crying about spilled milk. Adele is taken more seriously whereas Taylor isn’t. Maybe because Taylor is a country artist and they are known for songs like these but talk to me in 20 years and will see how Taylor would be

  2. I just think it’s great she releases music and everyone she’s been tagged to for even a second is like ‘Oh man, totally not about me!’
