Great news David Beckham fans, not only do we learn today that H&M will unveil statues of David Beckham in his underwear at stores all across the US but we also learn that David Beckham Bodywear will unleash a new Fall collection later this year. This is great news because A.) folks will be able to take photos with these underwear-clad statues of Becks and B.) a new Fall collection means there will be NEW promo photos of the actual David Beckham in his underwear. Hurray!!

Does anyone else think Michelangelo is so passé? Maybe it’s time for a new David in the sculpture world? Well, you asked for it: As part of the campaign for the new installment of David Beckham Bodywear for H&M, statues of the underwear-clad soccer star will be appearing in several locations around New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. These nine works of art will be unveiled on Thursday, August 16, and we’re pretty sure these larger-than-life statues — 11-feet-tall to be exact — will cause quite the buzz, if the Superbowl ad was anything to go by. Indeed, Becks stands nearly nude in a pair of his signature briefs, looking sideways. (We think pedestrians, however, will be looking straight, uh, ahead.) The original hunk o’ marble represents the biblical giant-killer and was a political statement in Florence, as the statue (in its original location) looked pointedly toward Rome in warning. So, what does Becks’ sideways stare mean in this commercial reinterpretation? You’d better buy my underpants or else? Posh, don’t you dare make me put pants on?
Hahaha!! I guess large photos of Becks in his undies aren’t good enough … H&M has to go and give us actual statues of the man in his skivvies. Trust me, I approve. And, um, if the LA statue ends up going missing … please don’t look for it at my home. It won’t be here, I can assure you. Now … as for the forthcoming new collection of David Beckham Bodywear:

David Beckham says he’s in the underwear game for the long haul, looking forward to advancing his bodywear partnership with H&M. The English soccer star’s second set of ads for his branded collection launches Thursday. The ads will coincide with a ”statue stunt” planned by the retailer with larger-than-life Beckhams going up in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. New products will be added to the collection later this fall. Beckham says he’s pleased with consumer reaction to the line and its ad campaign. ”I’m very happy that so far people seem to like it and the first season was incredibly successful. The challenge is to keep it going and establish a brand that will last many years. That is my ambition,” he wrote in an email to The Associated Press … The formula for the H&M bodywear line is largely about his personal preferences that, he says, are ”comfort and fit.” And he’s not just talking about T-shirts. Apparently, he doesn’t mind some downtime at home, and that’s why there will be more cozy and warm items heading into stores. ”It’s important to me that Bodywear means more than just briefs and Ts. It’s about all the pieces I like.” Beckham says he values the input of H&M designers, especially when it comes to their technical expertise, to get products to the point where he wants his name on them. ”Working with a team has always been a key part of my life,” he says. But, he adds, he didn’t have any help getting in shape so he could feel comfortable minimally dressed in front of the cameras. ”I did nothing different,” he says. ”I’m naturally fit of course as an athlete so there is nothing out of the ordinary I do!”
Woot!! So this week alone we get to check out a new set of David Beckham Bodywear promo photos AND the release of David Beckham statues. Thank ye gods, for this plentiful bounty. I’m actually very curious to see what new offerings will be included in this new Bodywear collection because … oh Hell, who am I kidding, I’m just interested in the promo photos! Wee!!!

Michealangelo didn’t create one thing passe in his lifetime. H&M, that’s a different story. Seriously, think you before you write, especially if you’re trying to make a living off of it.
@Madonnas Grannypanties — LOL. The Michelangelo thing is meant as a joke … and I didn’t write, the author of the source article wrote it. It’s funny, have fun :D
Um, am I the only one that feels he got a little, um, short-changed? Not that I’m complaining about a Becks statue, but was the sculptor being just a little shy?
@KELLYGREEN [blog] — I’ll try to get up close and personal with the LA statue and let you know :)
