Papa Joe Simpson Busted For DUI

Last weekend, Joe Simpson — former pastor and father of Jessica and Ashlee Simpson — got himself arrested in SoCal on charges of drunk driving. Altho Papa Joe got busted last weekend, the news is only just now coming to light. As you may know, Joe was a pastor in a church back when he and his family lived in Texas but in order to foster Jessica’s music career, Papa Joe ditched the church to become Jessica’s manager. It would seem that the former religious leader has strayed quite far from the path of righteousness.

Joe Simpson — Jessica Simpson’s father — was arrested for DUI in L.A. … TMZ has learned. According to law enforcement sources, 54-year-old Joe was busted on Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks on August 4. We’re told LAPD cops pulled Joe’s car over around 10 PM … and during the stop, officers got the feeling he was intoxicated and ultimately cuffed the famous pop and took him to the pokey. Joe was booked and spent the rest of the night behind bars. He was released without having to post bail at 9:41 the following day. The case has not been sent over to prosecutors in the L.A. City Attorney’s Office yet, but if criminal charges are filed, it’s likely Joe will not get any jail time since it’s his first offense. He’ll probably end up with a big fat fine — something his daughter will have no problem paying.

I have to say, the way that the criminal system treats drunk drivers is really unbelievable. If you are arrested for drunk driving, don’t worry about it! There won’t be any real consequences if it’s your first arrest — so you get a freebie the first time around. Blah. I mean, I understand why … the jails are already overflowing with criminals, if they threw in all the drunk drivers there wouldn’t be any room at all. Still, it’s upsetting to see how flippantly drunk drivers are treated … if you have enough money, and Papa Joe Simpson does have enough money, all you have to do is pay your way out of trouble. Sad.

We all make mistakes, as a socialite in the media day in and day out. I have to say, you can’t say you’ve never drank and drove? A glass of wine at dinner? A Beer at a game? A drink at the night club….although it maybe be an hour from when you left, it’s still in you’re system 80hours. YOU TOO drink and drive…you just JUDGE others because you haven’t been caught.

    • @Mario — Are you talking to me? I’m not even going to get into a back and forth argument about this but what exactly is your point? That just because everyone makes mistakes, then we should just shrug when people get arrested for drunk driving? You see to have an issue with my alleged “judging” but I think I have more of an issue with the general “meh whatever” attitude you seem to have about a deadly issue like this.

There is a reason there is a legal limit… Some people can have a drink and still be legally able to drive. Mr. Simpson here was obviously above the legal limit and therefore broke the law. I don’t know how Trent’s life comes into play here. I am pretty sure he has never gotten a DUI…

He didn’t have to pay bail???? WTF is that about?

I agree that we should have a stricter policy when it comes to dealing wtih DUI’s, but it also seems to be not as big of a deal to celebrities, since it (usually) won’t effect their jobs. In the real world you could not get hired over a DUI.

How far from god do you have to fall? First he was a minster then a money hungry manager who would exploit his daughters to an inch of their life to a DUI charge. Very sad
