Miley Cyrus Opens Up To ‘Marie Claire’ About Her Engagement To Liam Hemsworth

"Life is too short not to be with the person you want to be with.”

Back in June we learned the joyous news that popstar/actress Miley Cyrus got herself engaged to be married to her boyfriend actor Liam Hemsworth and today we get to hear from Miley about the engagement for the first time since the couple got engaged. Miley is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Marie Claire magazine and in her coverstory interview she talks about her decision to marry Liam, how long she plans to be engaged and her phat diamond ring. Click below to see Miley‘s Marie Claire coverphoto, read some excerpts from her interview, see some photos and watch behind the scenes video from her shoot. Whew! That’s a lot of stuff!

In her first interview since getting engaged to Liam Hemsworth in June, Miley Cyrus says the actor’s at-home proposal was a “complete surprise.” While the singer-actress had “no input” on her 3.5-carat Neil Lane engagement ring, Cyrus tells Marie Claire she more than approves of the sparkler Hemsworth picked. “I just love that it’s old and has a story. And I’m happy because it doesn’t look like anything else I wear,” she explains. Cyrus, who says she and The Hunger Games actor plan to have “a long engagement,” opined to the magazine that “Life is too short not to be with the person you want to be with.” “I don’t really care about the wedding or the piece of paper as much as I do the promise we’ve made to each other,” Cyrus says. The couple is living in the 8,000-square-foot home in the San Fernando Valley that was formerly occupied by Cyrus and her family, a set-up that has extra meaning for the starlet. “It’s really weird [sleeping] in my parents’ room. Now it’s my room, and Liam is at my dad’s sink and I’m at my mom’s,” she tells the mag, adding, “It’s really strange, but also really cool.” She continues, “The first time I ever met or hung out with Liam was here. When he first moved to America, he didn’t have any family here, so our family became his. This is where all our memories are being made.” Cyrus’ full interview, in Marie Claire’s September issue, hits newsstands August 17.

While I am still not totally on board with these young’ns choosing to get married so young, I guess it’s really not anyone else’s business but their own. The truth of the matter is that they are both extremely wealthy young people who are very used to getting everything they want. For them, money is no object and the future will always be happy, bright and cheerful … that is, until it’s no longer happy, bright or cheerful … then they can be unmarried if they choose and move on. I’m not going to accuse either one of them of being too immature to realize what marriage is about but they are really young and while they may be 1000% sure that getting married right now is the right thing to do, that may not always be the case. Still, whether they are in actual love with one another or they are merely in love with the idea of being “in love”, they’re gonna marry no matter what. Let’s just with them the best.

Now, this Marie Claire spread … it’s pretty lush, right? Miley looks very lovely in these very grown up fashions, don’t you think? Here is video fo Miley on the set of her MC photospread:

All growed up … or, at least, dressing as if she were all growed up. On the real, I do wish her and Liam all the luck in the world. Marriage is no joke. I hope they have a long and happy marriage if and when they do get married. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out, eh?

Honestly – I have a feeling her marriage will last MUCH longer than K. Kardashian’s. Hell – her entire relationship with Liam has been going on for a while. They broke up, and got back together…sure they’re a little crazy to try and get married…but that’s the best kind of love. When it’s crazy, and it consumes you.

I honestly do wish her the best, being with one person for the rest of your life – that’s a challenge. Here’s hoping they make the best of it.

  3. i love those last two pictures.

and i can honestly see this marriage lasting a long time. Liam doesnt seem like the type to do something so big, without knowing it was for sure.

It would feel very odd to me, personally, to be sleeping in my parents old room full time. Would totally kill the mood for me.
