Last week we heard some new music from Mariah Carey and a lot of ya’ll had mixed feelings. I, for one, found the original Triumphant track to be a bit of a disappointment, since we didn’t get to hear very much from the diva herself. And on top of that, Mariah is the undisputed (in my mind, lol) queen of the hip-hop collab! She’s produced much better songs than what came of her link-up with Rick Ross and Meek Mill (though I heart those two like cray), and I’ve got the proof inside. And… on a personal note… I can’t even front. Making this list was the most fun I’ve had since last week when I started working on PITNB‘s Best Videos Of The 90s list (forthcoming!!!). I really, really hope it’s as fun for you guys to experience it. Like… OMG. How could I have forgotten about the H.A.T.E.U. Remix??? And how did I not know that there was a remix to The Roof??? Featuring…. Mobb Deep?! That’s it. That was it! If I was ever for 22 seconds, not in love with Mariah Carey, that’s all changed now. She is the queen of all things; she has literally collaborated with every rapper that I would collab with if I had a killer five-octave range. Now if we can just get her in the studio with A$AP Rocky and/or Andre 3000 my life will be semi-complete. All hail the woman who makes Gucci Mane sound good. Gucci! The ill countdown is popping off inside!
Oh, and special thanks to Complex– they just published a complete history of all forty-one of Mariah‘s collaborations with rappers. But when I saw that they didn’t rank the songs, or post the videos, or give any commentary, I thought it might be nice to pull this together. Enjoy!
15. Up Out My Face feat. Nicki Minaj (2010)
Ok, truth be told I don’t absolutely love this song… which is why it’s #15. But, there’s something about this collaboration that makes perfect sense; the Barbie and the Butterfly were destined to make a track together. And this is the perfect track for them. Plus Mariah goes in about those Legos (@ 3:36). LMAO!
14. Heartbreaker Remix feat. Da Brat and Missy Elliot (1998)
This song almost didn’t make the list. And then Missy started rapping. And I was like, “Oh yeah.” Also, peep the faux wedding between Brat and Snoop. FTW!
13. Loverboy Remix feat. Ludacris, Shawnna, Da Brat, Twenty II (2001)
Oh my gosh. Remember TRL????? Nobody does booty shorts like M.C. circa 2001. Nobody.
12. Shake It Off Remix feat. Jay-Z and Young Jeezy (2005)
I. CANNOT. WITH. THIS. BEAT. If you’re not doing a slow wind to this then I cannot help you. If you’re not sure what a slow wind is, please google it and start doing it as soon as possible. I didn’t even know this remix existed 24 hours ago… so how was I even living a full, complete life? The answer is, I wasn’t.
11. The Roof (Back In Time) feat. Mobb Deep and Big Noyd (1998)
In a parallel universe, this same list exists, but with some variation. And this song is number one. ‘Cause it’s just the best.

David some of the comments have a delay when they post, sorry you had to post again! But I love your list! It was so hard to leave some of these out– I love the Make It Last Mix, and the Jadakiss/Styles P We Belong Together Mix. Another one that it PAINED me to leave out was Busta Rhymes/Flipmode/Mariah I Know what You Want. All classic!
Thanks again for taking time to share the list with us!
“Fog the windows getting very sentimental/ Sipping Cosmos with the cherry in the middle…” *Drops Mic*
Love Nas for that one.
Heck yes Shannon. This list is da bomb. Thanks for sharing.
But I do need some Busta and Mariah on this list! That’s one of my top 5 for sure.
colleen, i KNOW right? I may have to add a separate page for bonus tracks. That song was amazing!
Also, thank you colleen for bringing ‘da bomb’ back. It’s so appropriate, esp on this post :)
Shannon, I used to feel “Breakdown” in my core — way, down deep. *flashback* Loved your top 15!
Danica, lol. That song still takes me someplace special… ya’ll are lucky I didn’t include the chopped&screwed version. Nuts.
So glad you enjoyed!
Shannon! I love all you do but I’m a little disappointed that you didn’t remember that Murda Ma$e retired to become a preacher then CAME BACK…and then only faded into obscurity when his comeback album didn’t do well.
Oh well. And Heartbreaker and the Honey Remix are my two favorites…maybe Breakdown after that? I don’t know. Still love you though. Shouts-out to wherever Ma$e is these days.
(Oh, and the other day I was reading an article somewhere else and it contained the original “shout outs” phrase but in my head, I read it as “shouts-out”. That’s just the way it is now. Always.)
Erica!!! LMAO. TRUST ME– I remember when Ma$e came back; I do not like to bring that up, but you’re right it should have been said.
Shouts-out to Murda Ma$e/Rev. Betha indeed! Shouts-out to the first person (probably someone from Harlem) who started saying shouts-out rather than shout-outs. He/She shall live on in infamy, here at PITNB, forever.
Love you Erica!!!!
