Back in 2010, it was reported that Disney decided to try and market its animated take on the Rapunzel fairytale to boys by titling the film Tangled and focusing on the swashbuckling nature of the story (the reasoning was because it was believed audiences had tired of Princess fairytale stories). Around that time, it was also reported that Disney was planning to move away from adapting classic fairytales altogether. It would seem that the plan to move away from Princess fairytale stories is no longer … because today we learn that Disney is planning its 12th Princess film for next year, a film titled Frozen that is based on the classic tale The Snow Queen. Click below to get your first look at Frozen.
Merida has just joined the Disney Princess Line Up as the eleventh princess and there is to be yet another princess joining next year, as Princess Anna from upcoming movie Frozen, based on the classic tale of The Snow Queen. Anna, along with a ‘daring mountain man’ sets off on a journey to rid the kingdom of eternal winter by finding the Snow Queen. She is to be voiced by Kristen Bell and Frozen will be released on November 27th 2013!
You may recall that back in April we learned that Disney is working on a new 2D hand-drawn animated film, it would seem that Frozen is that film. I’ve always been a fan of Disney princess films, I think it was silly for anyone to argue that audiences are no longer interested in princess films. Disney built an empire by adapting fairytales into animated films, it’s a tradition that should live on. This first look at Frozen is very exciting. Altho I didn’t really love Brave as much as I hoped, I’m quite sure that Frozen‘s take on The Snow Queen will be amazing.
