Back in 2010 we started hearing murmurs that a new live action film based on He-Man and the Masters of the Universe was going into production. At the time, the names of a few actors started to make the rounds but nothing concrete was ever confirmed. Today we learn that the Masters of the Universe movie is really going to happen and that Jon M. Chu will direct. Chu is currently hard at work on the G.I. Joe sequel movie (which was supposed to be released this year but has been pushed back to next year) but according to a new report, he has also signed on to direct the new He-Man movie.

Jon M. Chu is in talks to direct a live-action “Masters of the Universe” movie based on the long-running action figure series. Chu is currently overseeing the 3D conversion of “G.I. Joe: Retaliation.” The “Joe” sequel was originally scheduled for a July release, but was pushed back to March 29, 2013, for pretty vague reasons in addition to the addition of the third dimension. This is the second crack at a film based on He-Man and his crew following the endearingly terrible Dolph Lundgren vehicle that saw our Eternian heroes sent to Earth to hang out with Courtney Cox and this musical keyboard cylinder thing that creates portals or something. Oh yeah, and Frank Langella was Skeletor. Specifics about the new flick are not available at this time.
I AM SO EXCITED, I can’t even tell you. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe was/is one of my favorite cartoons of all time. I collected the action figures, some that I still own today. He-Man was a huge part of my childhood. When the first Masters of the Universe film came out in 1987, it was just the best thing to ever happen in my life. Hearing about this new He-Man movie reminds me of how excited I was as a kid so … yeah, I’m geeked. Even tho there is a strong possibility that this movie could turn out terribly (after all, He-Man wears barely nothing — it’s hard to make a character like that believable) there is also the possibility that this movie could turn out surprisingly amazing (I mean, hello, He-Man wears barely nothing). I’m dying to find out who they will cast as He-Man. I think we’ll have a better idea of how the film will turn out when we learn who will play the lead role. Any suggestions?

This has made my whole day. I was born in 1978, so this is HUGE information for me. I remember racing off my school bus in the afternoon trying to get home & watch the cartoon. PLEASE be better than the Dolph Lundgren mess.
My 30 year old son still has all of these figurines, including He-Man and Battlecat. He’s going to be so excited by this news!
what about SHE-RA??? I love that biatch! lol
That guy who played Conan, Jason Momoa but i doubt if hed play another loincloth wearing action man, or Kellan Lutz.
