This is fantastic news for the fight against AIDS. A while back Nicki Minaj and Ricky Martin both teamed up with M.A.C. to create their own products for the Viva Glam line (Lady Gaga, Fergie, and Cindy Lauper have too). 100% of the proceeds from those products have gone to the M.A.C. AIDS Fund, which has now raised $250 million. Read more about the good news inside!
Elle has the report:
At last, some good news to start your weekend: M.A.C. AIDS Fund announced that M.A.C. Viva Glam sales raised $250 million for people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
The brand donates 100 percent of each Viva Glam lipstick sold to the AIDS fund, which means beauty fanatics can stock up on various hues guilt free.
The AIDS Fund, which started in 1994 as a grass-roots movement, provides community grants, counseling, advocacy and more to help fight AIDS in the United States and around the world. To mark the occasion of raising so much, AIDS Fund will be taking over the @MACCosmetics twitter through July 27, 2012.
Considering the various ways many corporations choose to spend their dollars, I think this is an amazing effort on the part of M.A.C. According to their website, they are especially concerned with marginalized communities affected by AIDS (sex workers, for example) and the gender-specific nature of the disease as well.
