Last week we got to check out a new movie trailer for the forthcoming gangster film Gangster Squad and today we get to check out a just-released new movie poster. Because the film features a group of pretty high profile movie stars (including Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone and more), each one of them has to be featured on the poster. Altho I’m not a big fan of period piece films, I have to admit that I am interesting in this film primarily for the Gosling factor. Despite my dislike for period pieces, I do appreciate the stylized look of the glamorous gangster era … which is featured in the poster you can see below.
It is still two months until Gangster Squad is released across the U.S, but a new poster is giving fans a tantalising teaser of the stylish 1940s flick. Stars Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling take centre stage in the shot, with the 23-year-old actress sporting a stunning crimson dress, drop earrings and matching lipstick. And her co-star Gosling looks especially dapper in a smart grey pin stripe suit. They even manage to overshadow more established stars Sean Penn and Josh Brolin, whose mean and foreboding poses lend the poster a noir edge. Gosling plays LAPD officer Jerry Wooters in the film which tells the story of the Los Angeles Police Department’s fight with the east coast Mafia to keep them out of Los Angeles in the 1940s and 1950s. Brolin plays the leader of the Gangster Squad, a vigilante police force that fights the gangsters on their own terms to secure the future of Los Angeles.
See, no one can accuse me of being small-minded. I am willing to look past my distaste of period piece dramas in order to support the filmmaking career of Mr. Ryan Gosling … it’s just the kind of guy that I am. I am willing to put aside my preconceived notions *just* to watch Ryan Gosling on the movie screen. Isn’t that big of me? I think so. And, I have to say, in all honesty … I do like this poster. The glamor of the 1940s doesn’t look half bad here. I’m willing to see more … you know, just to help out Gosling. Go me!
