Last Summer 4 of the Backstreet Boys reunited to go on tour with the also reunited New Kids on the Block for a massive tour. Today we learn that BSB is planning a full reunion with all 5 members later this year in honor of the forthcoming 20th anniversary of the boy band which will take place in April of 2013. Next month, Backstreet Boys — Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean and, yes, Kevin Richardson, too — will take the stage on Good Morning America to formally kick off their 20th anniversary reunion. The guys have a new album and tour in the works … do you think you can handle it?
Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell and AJ McLean are proud to announce the return of Kevin Richardson to the Backstreet Boys – the best-selling boy band of all time. “We couldn’t be happier to have our brother back with us” says Carter. The reunion of all five guys comes in time for the groundbreaking group’s 20th Anniversary this coming April 2013. Backstreet Boys will make their first official performance together with Kevin on Good Morning America’s “Summer Concert Series” on Friday, August 31st. This special concert in Central Park is free and open to the public. Nick, Howie, Brian, AJ and Kevin are currently in a London studio with producer Martin Terefe (Mary J Blige, Train, Jason Mraz), working on their first new album together since 2005. The new album will be released in the spring of 2013. Richardson happily says, “Being back with my brothers again feels great. I love these guys. We have gone through so much together. We just have a chemistry … a bond that will always be.” Litrell adds, “Having Kevin back in the mix adds that extra special magic to our group. We’re over the moon to have him back and it’s a great way to give back to our fans.” Along with the release of their new album, Backstreet Boys have been honored with a star on the legendary Hollywood Walk Of Fame in Los Angeles, CA. BSB’s star will bring everlasting memories of their star power, talent, and popularity to the millions who visit this internationally recognized Hollywood icon each year. Over the last 20 years, the Backstreet Boys have sold more than 130 million albums worldwide and ushered in a chapter of pop culture that commandeered the world’s radio airwaves, broke music and concert sales records, and launched a new generation of teen idols.
Holy shizz! How is it possible that Backstreet Boys are 20 years old?! I guess I never realized that the boy band formed way back in 1993 since they really only got huge in the late 90s. Still, 20 years in the business is no small feat, especially for something as disposable as a boy band. For this reunion to be a success, they had to get Kevin Richardson back into the fold … which is a good thing, I think. I don’t know that the world is ready for a full BSB reunion but, well, we’re gonna find out. Who’s excited?
