H&M confirms today the rumors that we first heard back in June … chanteuse Lana Del Rey has been selected as the new spokesmodel for the clothier’s forthcoming Fall/Winter promo ad campaign. Altho we still have some time to wait before the full campaign ad promos get released (along with a “mini-film”), H&M has released a couple of new photos shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin in conjunction with the announcement of LDR as the new face of H&M.
LANA DEL REY is the new face of H&M, it has been confirmed today. Rumours first emerged of the pairing in June, but the company refused to comment at the time. The Vogue cover girl will star in its autumn campaign, as well as its Christmas adverts. “We were looking for a style icon and singer to model our autumn/winter 2012-13 collection and Lana Del Rey was the perfect choice,” said H&M PR manager Chloe Bowers. “We think she shows our fall fashion in a very inspiring way. The theme of the campaign is a modern and feminine woman with a soft attitude. Curves and waist are important in autumn’s silhouette.” The images, photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, see the musician showcasing her signature retro style – wearing a pale pink angora jumper and her trademark Sixties-inspired black eyeliner. Del Rey will also appear in a television advertisement for the brand and will record Fifties song Blue Velvet for the occasion. The mini film will be released on September 19.
Yeah, I had a feeling that this collaboration was going to happen for sure. LDR is the perfect person for H&M. She’s easily marketable and her What’s Up, Pussycat? persona is a big hit with the hipster contingent. Honestly, I don’t expect that we’ll get anything different from these new campaign photos that we haven’t seen already. If these new promo photos are any indication, we will likely get more of the same when the campaign is released … but isn’t that the appeal here? This is what people love about Lana Del Rey, why not give folks what they want.
