Watch: Bloc Party Releases A New Video For ‘Octopus’

They're Back!

Bloc Party is not a band with which I am very familiar, admittedly. However, I remember some friends listing to them back in the day around the same time that we saw their lead singer (Kele) on a magazine cover with M.I.A. In fact for a while afterwards I totally thought M.I.A. was in the band. But it’s okay, somebody explained it all to me later so I’m fine now. And although I can’t claim to be a big Bloc Party fan, I’m always interested in new music and they’ve got some! Let’s checkie out the funky little Octopus video inside.

Bloc Party: Octopus

I dunno you guys. That flashy epileptic video movement is just never gonna get old for me! And the song carefully balances between the mellow and the melodramatic; it rocks and rolls but it’s also got a sweetness to it that gives it a unique, irresistible feel.

What I’m trying to say is that I think I love this song, and it’s time for me to start paying more attention to Bloc Party! Octopus is the first single off their new album called Four (it’s their first in four years, so you get it). The album drops August 20th.

Any Bloc Party fans in the PITNB building? As a new listener I love this track, but maybe someone can tell us how it fares against their old work. Hit me in the comments!

P.S. Every time I see the word “octopus” I see Fiona Apple! She has seriously taken over my life.

My husband loves Bloc Party and he turned me on to them. They have tons of awesome songs. My favorite is “This Modern Love.” My husband is so excited for this cd. Yesterday they said they were going to play the song on the radio and I’ve never seen him so excited! He didn’t want to get out of the car until they played the song. He is a fan of the new single.

    • Lizzy, he sounds like a true fan, lol! That’s awesome. I know it’s always exciting when bands come out with new music after a long break– especially for fans like your husband. Hope you guys enjoy the new album!

      Thanks for commenting :)
