First Listen: The Killers Release A New Single Titled ‘Runaways

The First Single from 'Battle Born'

Early last month The Killers released a short promo video to formally announce the forthcoming release of their new album Battle Born. Today we get our first listen of the band’s first single from the album, a song titled Runaways. Longtime fans of The Killers will, I think, appreciate this new single because it hearkens back to the classic sound of the band that we all know and love. Runaways is a bona fide Killers track, y’all. Take a listen to the song in full below.

As much as I love The Killers, I wasn’t too crazy about the band’s last album Day & Age. But, I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve listened to the band’s debut album Hot Fuss. This new track really reminds me of that album, particularly because of its similarity to the song When You Were Young. Check it out:

Some bands/musicians have a sound that is uniquely their own … Garbage has that quality, Alanis Morissette has that quality, Fiona Apple has that quality. The Killers, too, have that quatlity and this song is a definite Killers song … which is reassuring, IMHO. I dig this first single from Battle Born. If this is a sign of what’s to come, I am really looking forward to the album’s release this Fall.

I love it too. It reminds me of “Sam’s town” album :-)

  2. Sounds exactly like the way The Killers are supposed to sound. I’m glad that they are back. Having Brandon Flowers do his solo thing was very painful to listen to. He’s so much better when he’s with the rest of his Killers guys. The Killers are a band that people love when they hear them on the radio but kinda forget about otherwise and that’s a shame. They are great and this song is just one of the many great new songs to come from them. Way to go for their first single in a while.

BTW, have you ever met them?

But when you were young is from Sam’s Town, I really really like this song, I’m decided to learn the lyrics today ;)
I can’t wait till they start touring!

I love this song, but I gotta disagree with you Trent. Brandons solo had some really good songs on it. The problem was everyone thought it was going to be like the killers and it was something of Brandons choosing..Maybe you should give Crossfire a go again thats a fantastic song.

When You Were Young was not on Hot Fuss. Are you sure you have listened to Hot Fuss? This new track sounds nothing like something from Hot Fuss. Absolutely nothing. ;]

Why are you still listening to this guy? He continues to promote the most oppressive church in America (prop 8), despite the fact that he constantly attempts to emulate gay artists. The timing of their new album is suspect – probably to somehow promote Romney and this faith that has given more money to anti-equality groups than any other. Wake up.
