‘The Hobbit’ Releases A 2012 San Diego Comic-Con Poster

Back in December we got our first look at the first movie poster released for the forthcoming Peter Jackson film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey which, as you may know, is a prequel of sorts to the amazing Lord of the Rings trilogy of films. Today we get to check out a just released new promo poster for The Hobbit that will be officially unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con later this week. Altho Bilbo Baggins is the starring Hobbit of the film, this new poster features another character alone … the wizard Gandalf the Grey.

Director Peter Jackson has unveiled the poster for his upcoming film “The Hobbit” on his Facebook page, just two days after posting that principle photography on his two-part epic had wrapped. Jackson is targeting Comic-Con fans with this poster, which shows Ian McKellan as Gandalf the Wizard trekking through green, rolling hills. “Hi everyone. Here’s an exclusive Comic-Con poster,” Jackson wrote. “Be sure to get your copy in San Diego and let me know what you think of it! Cheers, Peter J.” Jackson and several stars are scheduled to attend on July 14 when Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures will preview the films, which follow the earlier days of a cast of characters familiar from “The Lords of the Rings,” including Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf the Wizard and Gollum. The first is subtitled “An Unexpected Journey” and the second “There and Back Again.” “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” will open in the U.S. on December 14; the second is due a year later.

It seems like so long ago that the world was gripped in the magical fantasy of Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films, almost like it was an almost-forgotten dream. I’m actually excited that that magical world is being revived again with the forthcoming set of Hobbit films. I don’t expect the Hobbit films to come to be as successful as the Lord of the Rings films were but they will likely be a huge hit with fans. It remains to be seen if there will be other goodies/spoilers released at Comic-Con this week were The Hobbit is concerned but I’m totally digging this poster. I cannot wait to see more.
