Here’s the thing about Kanye West and Pusha T. They need to do an album together. STAT. Watch The Throne was great (shouts out to Frank Ocean), and I welcome a part deux. And it’s also time for Kanye and Pusha to just get on with it. I’m not sure if they can make a wack song together. See/Listen: New God Flow inside.
Kanye West featuring Pusha T: New God Flow
Now I’ve read all sorts of ridiculous headlines about this song, including “Kanye West Once Again Outshines Collaborators” and “Old ‘Ye Appears On Single With Pusha-T.” It’s hard for me to imagine Kanye outshining Pusha T because Kanye is so obsessed with Pusha T! Or, as the love of my life explained it, Kanye‘s favorite rappers are all Pusha T-type rappers; they’re on a street level that ‘Ye will never be on and he loves that about them. Plus, um Pusha‘s opening lines?
I believe there’s a god above me
I’m just the god of everything else
???? Uh, yes. That pretty much sums up my spiritual views entirely, blasphemous or not! Lol, and then the 2Pac Coachella reference? And then the way he opened the 2nd verse??? (see DirectLyrics to get your life further changed by Pusha T‘s uncanny ability to seamlessly transition from god, to Ma$e to bricks in two verses)
And yes, Kanye did go iiiiin. Looove the Richard Pryor shout-out, lol. But I’m not party to the belief that this is somehow indicative of an “old ‘Ye.” Old Kanye, New Kanye and Kim Kardashian‘s boyfriend Kanye can all go iiin. Let’s not act brand new, HuffPost.
Did I mention that I like this song?! I was so excited to hear ‘Ye spit his verse on the BET Awards (you can watch the performance here), and it was a pretty slick move to release the full track immediately afterwards. Nice!
New God Flow is off the G.O.O.D. Music compilation album Cruel Summer, due out August 7.
