A Dozen Miles

So, let me tell you about my Monday. Honestly, I expected the day to be a very quiet, very relaxing (ie. lazy) day. I didn’t plan on going for a run since I had the option to push my run back to today but something grabbed hold of me yesterday evening and, well, off I went. But before I hit the streets, I did my fair share of TV watching and was very happy to receive a delivery from my mailman. All in all, it was a very relaxing AND productive day for me ;)


As you may recall, I started re-watching Star Trek: Voyager a few weeks ago and yesterday started in on the 6th season. The show has totally hit its stride by now and, sadly, I’ve begun counting down to the end of the series. I’m still pretty early in the 6th season and there is still a full 7th season to go but I’m enjoying the series so much, I don’t want it to end … again. I did manage to take some time away from watching TV so that I could listen to the new Ryan Adams vinyl box set Life After Deaf that arrived. The set contains 15 LPs with 176 live performances from Ryan‘s European tour last year. In addition, the box set also offers a collection of bonus live digital tracks for a total of 218 songs (which equals 16+ hours of live music)! I’m really lucky I got my hands on this box set, it sold out in 7 minutes. And, finally, my run. I decided yesterday was as good a day as any to go for a 12 mile run and I am happy to let you know that I was successful … except, a pain sprung up that has me a bit concerned. Around mile 9, I started feeling a sharp, sore pain on the outside of my left leg … a pain I never felt before. I was really trucking along but had to slow down considerably so as not to exacerbate the pain. I’ve come to realize that the pain is likely a problem with my IT band … so naturally, I’m concerned. As I understand, it there is no way to “fix” the problem and if I’m not careful, I could cause serious injury. The good news is that there are ways to avoid the pain from coming back. Firstly, I’ll have to rest for a few days. Secondly, I’ve been studying up on stretching and massage techniques and I plan on getting serious with my foam rolling. I cannot let this injury stand in my way … but I do have to be smart about making sure it doesn’t become a seriously impairing injury so … I have my work cut out for me.

I have a few errands to take care of today and I’m hoping to get out so I can see The Amazing Spider-Man. I hope you are having a great July 3rd :) Happy Tuesday!

    foam rolling!!! that saved my IT band issues. Ok, maybe not really, but it helped a LOT. Congrats on 12 miles!

    • @kat :) — I’ve been foam rolling ever since I finished my run. I even ordered a fancier, ridged roller. I can’t let my IT bands get in my way ;)
