Earlier this year we heard the Spice Girls were reuniting, then we heard that they are not reuniting, then we heard that they were possibly reuniting at some point this year … well, earlier this morning, the Spice Girls DID reunite … but not to perform, the Spices reunited to formally announce the production of a new musical stage show based on their music! The show will be called Viva Forever! Click below to see the reunited Spice Girls and learn more about the forthcoming musical show.
Talk about girl power! The Spice Girls – that’s Victoria Beckham (Posh), Melanie Brown (Scary), Emma Bunton (Baby), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty) and Geri Halliwell (Ginger) – reunited in London on Tuesday to announce a new jukebox musical, called Viva Forever!, which will feature the group’s songs. At the helm of Viva Forever!, which is scheduled to open on Dec. 11 at London’s Piccadilly Theatre, are Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous) and Judy Craymer, producer of the musical smash Mamma Mia!. “As one girl follows her dreams, Viva Forever! charts her journey into the world of overnight celebrity and its impact on her mother and the friends she thought she’d have forever,” reads a description of the show on its website. “From London to Spain and back again, as the world judges you, it’s all about who you really are and who you want to be, whatever the cost.” The Spice Girls debuted in 1996 with their hit “Wannabe” and eventually sold more than 75 million albums worldwide before they disbanded in 2000. They reunited for a tour in 2007.
OH MY GOD! This sounds AMAZING! Not only does the music of the Spice Girls lend itself to a fun musical show but the fact that the brilliant comedienne Jennifer Saunders is involved speaks very highly of the show itself. This show sounds a bit like Mama Mia … that is, the story doesn’t have anything to do with songs featured but the songs featured tell the overall story. I might have to make my way to London to see this show once it opens. As for today’s reunion, honestly, I wish the ladies were getting back together to announce a new album, tour or even one-off performance but … I don’t think that will happen anytime soon, I’m afraid. Still, it’s very cool to see them all together again. They look so happy … even Victoria Beckham. Imagine that.
