Ever since she took the lead in Zack and Miri Make A Porno I have been all about watching Elizabeth Banks blow up. Having recently starred in The Hunger Games, What To Expect When You’re Expecting, and People Like Us (which premieres next weekend), I think it’s fair to say that ‘blowing up’ is exactly what’s happening for her. She’s one of those women who has the audacity to be gorgeous and goofy, sometimes simultaneously. And if I didn’t love her, I’d hate on her so bad. I choose love. And so has Vanity Fair Online. They recently shared a gallery of the actress in the likeness of Marilyn Monroe. Amazing pics– and a lot of red on blonde action– inside.
Elizabeth Banks for Vanity Fair in Gentleman Prefer Banks:
Elizabeth Banks says her career began “at the exact wrong time.” She explains that her strength is romantic comedy, and that, as luck would have it, the rom-com hit a speed bump just as she hit Hollywood, back in 2001. Still, a slowdown may have worked in her favor. Instead of doing one kind of role over and over again, Banks has played all kinds of characters, from low-rent tacky (Zack and Miri Make a Porno) to White House classy (she was Laura Bush in W.) to just plain odd: her Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games is highly stylized, somewhat scary, and strangely delightful.
“I’ve put in a lot of time,” Banks says. “But because I’ve worked in so many different genres and with so many different types of people, I’ve managed to stay a little bit fresh and a little new, which is rare when you’re in your 30s.”
I noticed on the Vanity Fair post that a reader made a comment about how Elizabeth Banks looks “NOTHING” like Marilyn Monroe, but I’m not sure that was the point. Tons of celebs have gone for the Marilyn look and I think it’s all in fun. IMO Elizabeth looks amazing here (especially that top photo– nuts!), and not just because she’s posing as the icon. But for sure, the Marilyn kick doesn’t look bad on her, right?
