Happy Days are HERE AGAIN! The forecast this Summer is for a HOT boy band reunion!! As you may recall, we learned back in March that 98 Degrees was planning a small reunion tour to take place this year. Then, after it was revealed that Nick Lachey is going to be a father for the first time, we learned that the 98 Degrees reunion had been postponed … indefinitely. Shortly thereafter, we heard from fellow 98 Degrees member Jeff Timmons that it was his belief that the reunion might never come to be. BUT today, I am pleased to share, the band has officially confirmed that the reunion is BACK ON! The only downside to this news is that the reunion will only happen once … as in, una noche.
Fans of 98 Degrees were no doubt disheartened when Nick Lachey shot down rumors of an impending summer tour by the reunited band in the spring. But today both Nick and his brother Drew Lachey called in to On-Air With Ryan Seacrest to make the announcement that the ’90s boy band will indeed be getting back on stage together this summer — for one gig, at the Mixtape Festival in Hershey, Pennsylvania on August. 18. “We’re very excited about the opportunity, and we’ve been toying around with the idea for a couple of years: ‘if we got back together, when would be the right scenario, and this music festival right here just kind of seemed like the right time to get back together and do a show and kick the tires and see how it feels,” Drew said. So what was the deal with Nick Lachey’s tweet in April, where he noted that the obligations of being a new dad wouldn’t allow for a tour? “I didn’t say we weren’t going to do it, but there was some speculation about a full tour happening this summer and our fans have been kind of eager to see us get back together,” Nick told Seacrest. “I just wanted to make sure that they understood that a full tour wasn’t happening this summer, but obviously very excited to announce that we’re doing this big festival in Hershey in August. So, that will be our one and only appearance.” Does this mean there’s a future of the “Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)” crooners as a fully-fledged band again? As someone once said, never say never. “Let’s be honest, there’s nothing better for your ego than standing up on stage and having thousands of girls screaming for you,” says Drew. “It does become kind of addictive and we always had a blast touring together and making music together, but we are four grown men now. Most of us have families or kids on the way, so it really is about making sure that everybody can take care of their own responsibilities at home, and with their family, and with their private lives. If we can get together and do more that would be great. We’ve missed working with each other, performing together. So, we’re always open to that opportunity.”
Well thank the sweet baby Jebus for miracles! It really sounded like Nick Lachey was adamant about not reuniting with his former bandmates but I’m glad to see he’s had a change of heart. My guess is that the other guys, possibly desperate for a taste of their glory days, talked him into agreeing to a one-off performance. So, if you want to see 98 Degrees together again, you have to be in Pennsylvania this August. As much as I love the idea of 98 Degrees getting back together again, I think I’ll pass on making the trek back East to see their one night reunion. I suspect there will be lots of video of the guys back together on stage … and that will be good enough for me.
How about you? Are any of y’all planning to be in the hiz when 98 Degrees reunites this August?
