‘Project Runway’ Returns With A 10th Season Of Competition

In June of last year we got our first look at the promo materials released for season 9 of the competitive reality TV series Project Runway. Today, we get our first look at the forthcoming 10th season of the show. As you may know, Project Runway made the move from Bravo TV to Lifetime a few years ago and has since struggled to regain its former glory. I’ve been a fan of the show since the beginning and I am very much looking forward to this new season of competition … even if others are not. Click below to meet the contestants and learn what the 10th anniversary of the show has in store this Summer.

Project Runway is back! And it’s the design competition’s 10th anniversary season. “I can’t believe that it is Project Runway’s 10th anniversary already!” says host and judge Heidi Klum.”What an amazing milestone. I’m incredibly proud of the show and everything we’ve accomplished.” The new season, which kicks off Friday with a live runway show in New York City’s Times Square, will begin airing July 19 (9 p.m. ET) on Lifetime. “[The show] has been a great platform for many talented designers,” Klum, 39, continues. “Fans come up to me every day saying how much they love the show – that means so much.” PEOPLE has a first look at the 16 designers competing on the new season – and it’s a diverse bunch from around the world. Kooan Kosuke, 30, of Himeji-shi, Japan, counts Jean Paul Gaultier among his favorite designers and calls the King of Pop Michael Jackson his style icon … Buffi Jashanmal, 31, of London, studied fashion at London College of Fashion and at Parsons The New School for Design in New York City. And she’s camera ready: Buffi worked as a TV host in Dubai, where her mother lives, and launched her first line there.

As you can see, this looks to be a very interesting cast of contestants. It’s impossible to judge anything based on these promo photos alone but one thing’s certain, these contestants have signed up for a chance of a lifetime. Last August, Project Runway launched a second season of All-Star competition that featured an entirely new host, mentor and judging panel (a group of people that I did NOT enjoy watching from week to week) … I’m pleased to learn that host Heidi Klum, mentor Tim Gunn and judges Michael Kors and Nina Garcia will be back for this 10th season of PR. Altho I watched the entire All-Star season last Fall, I really didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped. Project Runway is such a good show, I hope this new season will find success. I fear the show may not last much longer on the air if it doesn’t perform well. I’ll be tuning in next month when the new season debuts, will you?

yes, yes and more yes! I have been waiting for this. This is the only reality show I watch (except The Voice). Although I was a bit “meh” with all stars, I really started liking it towards the end. But i’ve come to the conclusion that I’ll like anything with Anthony Williams in it. LOL!

    • @blaqfury — Honestly, I enjoyed the contestants for the most part … but I really loathed the sight of Kenley for as long as she lasted. UGH. An All-Star she is NOT.

    • Krissy

I completely agree with you about Kenley! Perhaps she was brought back because she is snarky, and therefore makes for good tv? Her one-note designs couldn’t be the reason she was included in All-Stars! ;)

  • LaToya

Love this show so much! It’s are waiting for it in England though …….boo :-( still happy my fellow Trini won last season, go Anya!

    • @LaToya — OMG, I LOVED Anya! She was my pick to win from the start too :)

    • Krissy

I loved Anja’s style too…but one of my good friends has dressed like her for years! I thought she had great taste, but I thought her designs weren’t very inventive. That said, I would wear most of the things she made.

  • jess

I loved kenley and her designs!

  • Krissy

I love project runway! Can’t wait for the new season! What day does it begin?

  • Emily

What bothered me about All Stars was the host. I found her completely dry and forgettable. Surely there are some supermodels out there with personality? Lol! I loved Isaac and the female judge, but above all my heart was with Mando!!!! Le Sigh! Love that he got his redemption even though it felt a tad lukewarm the second time around. :)

    • @Emily — I agree, it was so great to see Mondo get his do. While the host was a bore, I found the mentor unwatchable. She was so bad I found myself fast forwarding whenever she was on screen. Ugh. I hope I never have to see her on TV again.

Hallelujah! The train wreck that is Fashion Star made me appreciate the talent on Project Runway even more.
