Highs & Lows

The TV Guide

Welp, I had a very interesting past 24 hours … full of amazing highs and, unfortunately, a pretty shitty low. Thankfully, the highs outweigh the lows but still … well, yeah, it’s been interesting. Last night, Darion and I made our way to downtown LA for a double feature of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Craft. While we had the BEST time ever, I was very shocked to discover that my beautiful not-even-a-year-old car was viciously vandalized in the lit, attended parking lot I parked in. As upset as that made me, I couldn’t wallow because this morning I started my first day of marathon training with Team 2 End AIDS. See what I mean? Highs and lows.

The long and short of my night is this … Darion and I had a really fun time together enjoying the movies and then I was really, really upset to see my car damaged. Someone thought it would be cool to kick huge dents into both passenger side doors and the rear back side panel — there’s a lot of damage and you can still see the dirty footprints in the dents :( I can’t even share photos here on the blog because it’s too upsetting. I parked the car in an attended lot, under a light and away from all other cars. When I returned, there were cars on both sides, the attendant swears he saw/heard nothing and the light was flickering on and off. As shitty as this damage is, I am very grateful that nothing more serious happened. There was no accident, no one was injured and no other cars were involved. Into everyone’s life a little rain must fall and I’m *trying* to be thankful for all of the good things in my life right now … and for the fact that things could’ve been much worse.

Today is a better day. I registered and participated in my first day of marathon training with Team 2 End AIDS:

I’m officially training to run a full 26.2 mile marathon in Honolulu, HI this December. I’ll be raising money for AIDS Project Los Angeles and believe me, I’ll be coming to YOU for donations ;)

Blah … I can’t help but be bummed about my car (I couldn’t even look at it today) but, as I said, I have so many things to be thankful for. I have my health, a sturdy body that is training to run marathons … I have amazing friends like Darion who almost fell over himself last night to try and make me feel better … I have an amazing fiancée that has done everything possible to make the situation not as horrible. I met a bunch of amazing people today who are all working in concert to raise much needed money for the APLA, an organization that offers aid to those in need. In the end, my car will be fixed and this will become a distant memory. For now, I’ll prolly be a bit bummed still but I’ll get over it.

Life is, in all honesty, very good so I’m going to do my best to continue to enjoy it. Happy Saturday, y’all! Have a great weekend!

I’m so sorry, Trent. I’ve been following you forever, and I think this shows just what kind of a person you are. Instead of using this as negative energy, you turn around and use it in the most positive way possible–by bettering yourself and your body, all while helping others in need. Which is exactly why your readers love you to pieces! Big virtual hugs to you today =)

    • Agreed. I absolutely loathe vandals. They’re the worst kind of filth in the human race (besides rapists and pedophiles.)
      Will insurance cover the damages?
      Enjoy your training sessions.

    • @Debho — Yes, Insurance should cover all the costs but the claims process is tedious and I’m not really looking forward to being without my car while it’s being repaired. All in all, the matter should be fully resolved soon … it’s just a pain to deal with. But, Ugh, I hate seeing my car so hurt :(

That is horrible about your car. I’m sorry that the rudeness of others has to effect your life! I have a short story that may help, I always bring it to mind when people do/say crappy things to me. Hope it hepls you :-)

Sorry about the car Trent….. people suck

  4. Alyssa

Ohhh Trent :( !! How sucky!
I’m glad you’re mature enough to see the light in it (ie. better a damanged car from a stupid person, not from a fatal accident) but you have every right to be upset!! As a matter of fact, I will personally allow you to listen to all the “Shania Twain – Up” and “Daniel Powter – Bad Day” type of songs without judging you, promise! ;)

David — get some ice-cream in our beloved Trent, PLEASE!

  5. Yes, that’s always tough too..being without your car. Don’t you hate it when you look after your car like it’s part of the family and someone else violates it? Not long ago someone keyed my Jeep in broad daylight in a busy shopping centre car park. Arseholes.

  6. Smoo

omg that’s horrible?! Can you do anything to the lot you parked it in?! That is beyond absurd, so sorry :(

  7. rOXy

:( People can be so poopy. Do you have any banners or bumperstickers that can be hate-targets? That’s why if I am ever moved enough to advertise for an issue, I make sure any stickers are the magnetic kind so I can remove them when I am parked in public places. I hate when my car gets a boo boo, but the fact that yours was wounded while innocently waiting for you is just UGH!

Hell, yes, I’ll donate whatever I can to your marathon fund raising efforts. I must have missed the post where you announced you were doing this, but good for you! Awesome way to support and what better place to do it but in HI? Best of luck.

  8. JillyD

So sorry about your car :( Sometimes when things like that happen its not the damage to the property that upsets you, it’s that someone was in your personal space and disrespected you by damaging your property.

    • emily

@JillyD – you are so right. Yes, the hassle of paperwork and fixing the damages is annoying, but the real pain comes from feeling violated by someone in your personal space. Well, that and knowing some people are just cruel.

You’ve got a great attitude Trent and good people to support you. Congrats on registering for the marathon … I STILL can’t believe you are running! It’s awesome!

  9. cmc

I’m so sorry to hear that, Trent :( But you’re right- it’s a blessing that no one was hurt. Excited for you to run your first marathon!

  10. Sistah_Tru

Bitches get fired, hoes grow tired. I’m just sayin what you all are thinking about an ex blogger… Mmmmm-hmmmm

  11. Beth

OMG!! I can’t believe this would happen to you. Are there any cameras in the parking lot they can review? I hope you filed some sort of police report. If you don’t want to deal with all that, I understand. I’ll be sending good energy and thoughts your way though.

  12. Jessicagiovanna

Sorry boo.. Been there, it feels like such a violation … Keep up the positive attitude.. Your baby will be good as new soon enough

  13. BCDanielle

So sorry to hear about your car! I hope it can get fixed quickly and it won’t cost too much. Glad you have such amazing people in your life to make crappy situations better!

  14. Oh crapola! I’m so sorry about your car. What a shitty way to end the night. But I think it’s super great that you’re running a marathon, and good luck with it! <3

  15. Laura

I hope you have a blessed week – sorry about your car

  16. Dclover

Trent, your positive attitude is infectious & inspiring!! Sending good vibes your way!

  17. jenny

I very sorry Trent. People just have no respect for anyone or anything anymore. Its a different world now and I fear for all the generations after ours. What kind of person randomly violates cars in a parking lot?
The upside is that you and your friends were not hurt. Cars can be repaired but life is too short. God forbid you guys came out in the middle of all this and it got ugly. I am grateful you are safe and unharmed. Your car will be perfect again in no time! xoxxxo
Good luck with the big marathon training. You inspire me!!!

  18. Kel

Karma is a bitch, and I hope the assholes who did this get bitch-slapped sometime soon!! Good attitude though Trent…I am glad David and Darion made you feel better.

  19. aeb

trent, that’s horrible what happened to your car! that is awful. and to hear that it was “unseen.” just the worst.

when i saw the buffy pic all i could think of was “And then you come along and, and tell me I’m a member of the hairy mole club so you can throw things at me? I don’t THINK so!” goodness, i love that movie.

i am so amazed by your running!
