Back in October of 2010 we first learned that Courtney Cox-Arquette and hubby David Arquette decided to end their relationship. In the months that followed, there was some back and forth embarrassment in the media but for the most part, the couple remained civil. In the past 2 years that the couple have been separated, Courteney and David have seemingly remained friendly … to the point that I totally forgot they were estranged. Today, on the 13th anniversary of the couple’s wedding, David legally filed for divorce from Courteney. Friends or not, it would seem the couple are truly no longer interested in being married.
David Arquette has officially filed legal documents to finally divorce his estranged wife, Courteney Cox … TMZ has learned. Arquette cites “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce. He is asking for joint legal and physical custody of their daughter, Coco, who turns 8 tomorrow. He did not ask for spousal or child support. There is no mention of how the property will be divided. According to the docs, David is representing himself in the divorce — he does not have a lawyer. David signed the divorce documents on March 23, 2012 … so it appears he’s been holding them for nearly 3 months. The couple married on June 12, 1999 — exactly 13 years ago — after meeting on the set of “Scream” back in 1995. David and Courteney first announced their separation back in October 2010 … with both sides saying they were “best friends” who were committed to raising their daughter together. At the time of the initial separation, the couple released a joint statement saying, “The reason for this separation is to better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a partner and for our marriage.”
Yeah, I’d say the couple’s state of dunzoness is pretty serious. As I mentioned before, because we hadn’t heard anything about divorce since the couple’s estrangement 2 years ago, I started to believe that they planned to stay married … as friends? I dunno. Courteney even put David in the season finale of Cougar Town in a cameo role so I assumed all was well between the two of them. Actually, all may still be well between them … some people were just not meant to be married. As sad as divorce can be, I’m guessing this is the right move for Courteney and David. Sometimes the best thing for a loving couple is to not be a couple anymore.
