Pics have emerged today of the lovely and ever-so-talented Kate Winslet in character on the set of her new movie, Labor Day. It is set in Shelbourn Falls, Massachusetts, and Kate is in town filming alongside her co star Josh Brolin. According to EW, Kate plays the role of a lost, lonesome mother and Josh is an escaped convicted murderer who takes refuge with her and her young son. The movie, adapted from the novel by Joyce Maynard, has been described as part love story, part coming-of-age tale, and part thriller. Check out the pics of Kate on set and find out some more about his very intriguing, and sure to be great, film.
Set in the early ’80s over the late summer holiday weekend, Labor Day opens with divorced, depressed single mom Adele clothes shopping with her 13-year-old son, Henry. They encounter a large, fearsome man — who also happens to be bleeding badly. He asks for a ride, and against all judgment, they give him one.
Even before reading anything more about the film itself (which already sounds good!) you know it’s going to be great because it’s got Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin as the lead roles. Kate was phenomenal in The Reader, earning herself awards galore, and Josh was seriously excellent in Milk. I think they have really scored with the cast in this one. I haven’t read the book, but I do plan to before the movie comes out. I have a feeling about this one…
As a side note, how cute is Kate Winslet’s boyfriend, Ned “Rocknroll” Smith, who visited her on set? (Interesting fact for the day: Apparently, Rocknroll isn’t just a nickname- eccentric Ned officially changed his surname after putting it out to a vote?)
