Watch: Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’ Releases A First Trailer

Over the past few weeks we have been hearing bits and pieces about the new Quentin Tarantino film, Django Unchained; mostly in relation to Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s role in it, as he pulled out of the movie in order to focus on his directorial debut. To say that Tarantino has a lot of fans in movie buffs is an understatement, and therefore this movie has high expectations to live up to. Starring Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L.Jackson and Christoph Waltz, it tells the story of the titular Django (the “D” is silent), who is a freed slave that discovers his wife has been captured by a slave owner. Check out the first trailer below.

As you can tell from the trailer, Leonardo DiCaprio plays the role of Calvin Candie, the slave owner, and Django (Jamie Foxx) is aided by Dr. King Schultz, who is played by Christoph Waltz. There is a lot of signature Tarantino and this trailer doesn’t do it justice, IMHO. It is only the first teaser and the movie doesn’t come out until the end of the year, so there will be lots more publicity headed our way.

There has been some criticism of Leo in this role and I know that some folks are worried that Tarantino will disappoint because of it, but I for one am pretty darn excited about this movie. I love me some Tarantino and I think the only reason there is concern about being disappointed is because Tarantino has set such a high bar for himself. What do you think of this trailer? Are you excited about Django Unchained?

Oh sweet. I love Tarantino and I love movies about revenge and I love movies about escape.

  • YES! So glad the trailer is here! Melissa you have to understand– I LOVE Tarantino, i LOVE Leo, Christoph Waltz KILLED it in Carnage and Water for Elephants and Kerry Washington is a beast (like, in acting). And then there’s Jamie Foxx! I am so hyped about this, I’m sure to be disappointed, lol. But honestly, I think you’re right– it will be very Tarantino. It’s a movie about revenge, but he’ll have all his quirky ironic humor in there. It’ll be more about that stuff than it will be about slavery or American history. I’m looking forward– thanks for posting this!

    — your co-worker who’s kinda jealous you nabbed this one up from me

Umm… can Quentin Tarantino make a movie that’s NOT ridiculously perfect? Love that Leo’s playing a crazy too, that’ll be fun. I’m seeing the SHIT out of this movie when it comes out.
