Eat, Play, Lurve: Nine Sites To Help You Find Your Bliss

Facebook is great and all, but it’s not an entirely blissful experience. Sometimes I wanna see things online that don’t make me feel insecure about… well… anything. We all need a safe, happy place to escape to, which is why god created Pinterest and Tumblr, and those good ol’ fashioned blogspots. They’re fun, simple, and your ex isn’t on there updating his/her relationship status for your viewing [dis]pleasure. So just like Julia Roberts did a couple years back, we are taking you on a journey to find some pure, unadulterated bliss. The only difference is that this journey’s online and James Franco and Javier Bardem probably won’t make it. Next time for those guys. Experience more photos from all nine sites in the gallery (including some from Zooey Deschanel’s tumblr and a blog that takes you to Paris and back), and get your EAT, PLAY, LURVE on at these virtual escapes:

EAT. (with your eyes)
1. Paula Deen PinterestCelebrity chef Paula Deen has 73,000 Pinterest followers for a reason, and the reason is this:

If this sausage, egg, and PANCAKE sandwich does not help you find your true self, nothing will. Nothing.

2. F-Yeah Cupcakes Tumblr
The best part of this site is this
featured article about the cupcake as a symbol of female sexuality. True story.

In case you were curious about how happy this image should make you, here are the ingredients: Chocolate/Cookies and Creme: Devil’s Food Cake Mix, Hershey’s Cookie’s and Creme Drops, Hershey’s Cookies and Creme candybar, Fluffy Frosting. Didn’t I promise you pure, unadulterated joy? You’re welcome.

3. Bakerella
Bakerella recently featured a few recipes from The Cookie Dough Lover’s Cookbook. Because there’s a book for that creepy thing I do when I bake cookies for the sole purpose of eating the “leftover” raw cookie dough. Sooo good to know I’m not alone :)

A Chocolate chip cookie decorated chocolate chip cookie dough pop. It’s been frozen. So you can dip it in the topping[s] of your choice.” Then you may die happily.

PLAY. (or, Just For Fun)

4. CelebriGum
Described by David Letterman as “a perfectly silly, genius idea.” Ever day, a guy named Steve takes a photo of celebs coming in to do The Late Show and, for whatever reason, takes it from the one window in the Ed Sullivan Theatre that has a piece of gum on the ledge. Celebs + gum = CelebriGum. Enjoy.

See Elizabeth Banks? Well, she’s not that important. Now the wad of gum, that’s where the money shot is. I can’t really explain my love for this site (other than my SLC/Friends School background). I guess I like that it gives me the celebrity element but in a hilarious tongue-in-cheek kinda way. I get to see Elizabeth Banks, without seeing her eyeliner and immediately wishing I had her make-up artist. That brings me joy. How about you?

5. Zooey’s Miscellany

The New Girl’s tumblr is the perfect place to get your daily dose of adorkable. Zooey Deschanel shares fun photos of herself, her work, and friends– all in a super-positive, playful tone. Like CelebriGum you get a taste of the celeb life, but in sweet, small, kinda awkward doses.

The unofficial Queen of Nail Art shares her nautical-themed masterpiece. Crazy cute.

6. Cool Hunting
Like the name implies, the people on this site must go out looking for all the cool ish in the world– artsy cool, fashion cool, techy cool– and then they put it in one place for me. I mean you. Us.

The “Design” section of the site recently showcased some of Anthony Dickens’s latest work. He’s a UK designer who modeled a lighting display after Japanese paper lanterns. This and the endless other cool stuff on Cool Hunting makes it a great place to play around, but kinda like an intellectual.

7. Buffy Confessions

This site asks fans to write in a secret, perhaps unpopular confession about Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Buffy Confessions. What’s not to lurve?

Yes, yes, yes! Wasn’t Anya’s weird, way-too-direct ass one of the best things about Buffy? Lurve!

8. HiP Paris

I won’t get into it now, but I have a thing for Paris. Ok, I’ll get into it: I got into the SLC Study Abroad Program in Paris and never went because I was, like, going through some stuff and have never forgiven myself. This site helps me heal because it reminds me of how much I love the idea of Paris; maybe it can help you too. Happy sigh.

HiP = Haven In Paris. I get it.

9. The Selby

It’s like MTV Cribs, but for art farts. Todd Selby is a photographer and illustrator who takes photos of other artists and designers in their homes, offices, and personal spaces. The images are so fun and delicious and the artists are from all over the world. Like HiP Paris, this site allows you to experience the aesthetics of another place– and fall in lurve with it– without leaving your home.

I’m in love with their home… and I’m pretty sure they’re in lurve with each other. Check out another, more intimate shot of them in the gallery.

I can’t wait to share more of my Happy Places with you guys– and to go to some of yours! Where (online) do ya’ll get your EAT, PLAY, LURVE on?

Edible social media? Yes Please. (The tumblr cupcake didn’t make it to the photoshoot)
