Kristen Stewart Covers ‘Vanity Fair’ Magazine

Rebel Belle

Twilight star Kristen Stewart is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Vanity Fair magazine and in her coverstory interview, she takes aim at the critics and “voracious, starving shit eaters” who criticize her red carpet poses (among other things). Well, now. Elsewhere in the mag, K. Stew looks all prettied up and glam in her VF photospread (shot by Mario Testino). Click below to see Kristen on the cover and in the pages of VF magazine and read what else she has to say about … stuff.

“I have been criticized a lot for not looking perfect in every photograph,” Kristen Stewart tells Vanity Fair contributing editor Ingrid Sischy in July’s cover story. “I get some serious shit about it. I’m not embarrassed about it. I’m proud of it. If I took perfect pictures all the time, the people standing in the room with me, or on the carpet, would think, What an actress! What a faker! That thought embarrasses me so much that I look like shit in half my photos, and I don’t give a fuck. What matters to me is that the people in the room leave and say, ‘She was cool. She had a good time. She was honest.’ I don’t care about the voracious, starving shit eaters who want to turn truth into shit. Not that you can say that in Vanity Fair!” On top of battling personal reluctance, Stewart also struggles with the public’s preconceived notions about her personality. “People have decided how they are going to perceive her,” Robert Pattinson tells V.F. of Stewart. “No matter how many times she smiles, they’ll put in the one picture where she’s not smiling” … Of her personal style, she tells us she’s evolved into loving wearing “some cool shit” from the world’s most respected and avant-garde designers, although she wasn’t always attuned to the power of fashion. “Look at a picture of me before I was 15. I am a boy. I wore my brother’s clothes, dude! Not like I cared that much, but I remember being made fun of because I wasn’t wearing Juicy jeans. I didn’t even think about it. I wore my gym clothes. But it’s not like I didn’t care that they made fun of me. It really bothered me. I remember this girl in sixth grade looked at me in gym and was like, ‘Oh my God! That’s disgusting—you don’t shave your legs!” Now past the initial sting of her harsh childhood critics, Stewart has developed into a wry and at-ease adult, and Sischy caught her in the mood for modest adventures—like when she takes the actress to a quiet, tucked-away table in the back of a Parisian seafood restaurant, where they are offered escargot, a dish that Stewart has never tried. After warily eyeing the snails, she dives right in—washing them down with white wine and bread—and says with a grin, “Pretty good. Though I just don’t want to eat a whole plate of them” … Of her life as a major star, she reflects on the moment when she realized that Twilight had changed her life. “You can Google my name and one of the first things that comes up is images of me sitting on my front porch smoking a pipe with my ex-boyfriend and my dog. It was [taken] the day the movie came out. I was no one. I was a kid. I had just turned 18. In [the tabloids] the next day it was like I was a delinquent slimy idiot, whereas I’m kind of a weirdo, creative Valley Girl who smokes pot. Big deal. But that changed my daily life instantly. I didn’t go out in my underwear anymore.”

Ah ha, the rebelliousness of Kristen Stewart is starting to rear it’s ugly head. Look, I get it … no one likes to hear criticism about them, let alone about every. single. thing. that they do. Now that Kristen is getting more and more caché in Hollywood, she will start to test her strength little by little and let her true feelings and her true voice be heard. But, c’mon … can we please be real here? Kristen Stewart is still an awkward girl. She looks awkward in her films, she looks awkward in photographs and she looks awkward on the red carpet — and I’m not a “voracious, starving shit eater” for saying so. This girl has had an immense amount of fame heaped upon her for the mere fact that she won the role of a very popular book character. She is not beloved by her legion of fans because she is a stunningly adept actress nor is she adored because she is a stunning beauty. That’s not to say that she’s not a passable actress (well, in some cases) nor is that to say that she is not a beautiful young woman (IMHO, she is). My point is that the insane level of fame and fortune that K. Stew is enjoying would’ve been heaped upon whichever young actress won the role of Bella Swan in the first Twilight film. To her credit, I feel Kristen is getting better at acting and she is getting better at posing for photoshoots:

The true test of her fame will come years after the Twilight film franchise is over and hopefully long forgotten. She may have lucked out by nabbing the Twilight role but she was the chose actress for the part — she won the role and therefore everything that comes with it. It remains to be seen how she wields that power in her post-Twilight career. Honestly, I’ve yet to see anything that has convinced me that she is more than a one-trick pony. I hope to be proven wrong, tho. I’d love to see this young actress grow beyond the confines of Twilight. If she’s meant to be a bona fide star, she’ll have to prove that her fame is worth more than a serious of bad movies based on even worse books.

  1. she looks great – from the neck down. this one facial expression she has is just annoying now.
as for her career post twilight. i dont see it lasting. once all the hype after this last movie goes away, i dont see her getting many roles. (just my opinion)

  2. Kel

I just remember her pre-Twilight as Jodi Foster’s asthmatic daughter in Panic Room. She was really good in it and totally held her own in my opinion!

    • Tracy

Panic room was one of my fav of movies. I like to see strong women show their stuff. Kristen was you and care free so are acting skills really showed through. Now…ugh! I just do not think she is a good actress.

    • Tracy

That should be “young and carefree” UGH!

    • Tracy

Okay!!! young and carefree so her acting skills really showed through…SERIOUSLY!

  3. BradywantsMoore

I really loved her in Snow White & The huntsman I like that she is so real and relatable!

  4. Jackie

She was great in Panic Room. I don’t know what happened?

    • Delilah

Photoshop always does wonders in Kristen Stewart’s case don’t ya think?? Besides all the “lovely” interviews she gives *rolls eyes* she still manages to give the same blank expressioned wooden performances in her films. And her “too cool for school” attitude…she seriously needs to get over that sense of entitlement she seems to LOVE to express everytime she does print interviews. I’ve REALLY tried to like her, and give her other films a chance but she’s consistently brought the same emotion to EVERY character she embodies. Been waaaaay over her. But it’s hard to forget her since she’s constantly shoved down our throats!

  5. Krissy

She will have a long career in indie movies. Her performance in On the Road sealed that deal. Honestly, I don’t think she lucked out by being cast in Twilight. I think she would have had a strong indie career without it, and the Twilight insanity might have actually scared away a few roles for her. Twilight sucked because you can’t polish a turd, and those books/movies were huge enormous turds.

    • Tracy

      LOL! “huge enormous turds”.

Let’s be honest Kristen only got the part of Bella because Hardwick was a friend of her family as well as the family of Kristen’s ex-boyfriend. It was pretty much handed to her…I was excited at first because it was the girl from Panic Room, then I saw her act and I gave her the benefit that maybe it was the movie…then I saw New Moon and how she was acting out side of the movies and I started not to like her at all.

    • Krissy

Hardwick cast her while she was filming Adventureland.

  6. Cee

Say what you want about her less than desirable personality, the girl is simply stunning. She may have one facial expression, but when you do see a picture where she’s actually smiling, she is fabulous.

  7. Shannon

I don’t know much about her but after seeing her on the vmas she just seems so awkward and douchey

  8. JCZ

It’s funny how most people associate how shit Twilight is with her – no actor on that franchise puts on a worthy performance. But that’s the point – I hate the franchise and the acting – but look at what they’re adapting, a book that in itself is a piece of crap.

It’s so over the top and melodramatic – how else can they perform. But it’s still crap.

No matter who got the role they would’ve succumbed to similar criticism in their personal life cause everyone is all starry eyed over R.Pat.

Fact of the matter is – she is hot. Whether she has one pose or fifty. You can’t deny that. She gets the last laugh cause she filthy rich doing so.

    • Krissy

“but look at what they’re adapting, a book that in itself is a piece of crap.”

Amen! Some of my friends actually love the books, and I just don’t get it.

  9. Ben@pr

I do not worship her but I gotta say I didn’t hate her performance in Snow White maybe because the character is not as bland and boring as Bella. In the cover pic she’s giving a kind of I don’t give a s**t glamorous pose. She’s improving. I couldn’t agree more with you Trent about the fame she have is because of a series of really bad movies. She’s definitely not the girl that got into the business for the glamour of it.

  10. last photo is stunning!

  11. jackie

I wish she would just do less interviews. I cringe every time I read her interviews. She just comes across as an immature brat.

  12. Alys

Compare her to the likes of Emma Watson or Emma Stone, two young ladies about her age, and they are worlds apart in terms of their interview material. You don’t hear Emma W. bitching about the childhood/adolescence of stardom she faced after Harry Potter blew in. Does she curse and glare and frown? Of course not. Maybe it’s a case of background and breeding, but heck, Jodie Foster didn’t act this way either, did she? Kristen loses a lot of points and respect from me because her interviews portray her in a very negative light, as a whiny and ungrateful kid who sneers at the limelight. Sure, I get that it’s difficult to be catapulted into the limelight, especially at the helm of a rabid fanbase and the era of celeb-watching blogs. Plenty of other actresses deal with it and not in this manner. She really could stand to grow up.

  13. Sarah

After seeing Snow White and the Huntsmen she totally changed my opinion of her – I thought she did a great job! Go see the movie if you haven’t already, it really suprised me…in a good way! :)

  14. lauren

I disagree with the criticisms here, HOWEVER I won’t judge. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I’ve seen her in Welcome to the Riley’s, The Runaways, Adventure land, Speak, Into the Wild, and of course Panic Room. I am a fan of her acting, her personality, and I’m a fan of her beauty. I find it interesting that everyone is made uncomfortable by her lack of desire to smile and play the game. She has a huge amount of fans that relate to this, take my word for it, her career will be long. She ain’t goin’ anywhere!
I do appreciate this post because it doesn’t have that bully tone that some have, that hypercritical Per#z crap, it’s honest and accurate, she’s not for everyone and that’s OK. Like I said, I don’t agree, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

  15. Erik

Agree with Lauren. I have been a fan of hers since panic room and personally think she is an incredible young actress and amazingly good looking. I suppose I understand why this interview might make her appear ‘brattish’ to some, but let’s face it – the media does give her huge shit for not always smiling and hamming it up for the cameras (a la lea michelle, wtf). She’s just a naturally awkward person. From the interviews I’ve watched of her, she seems like a very down to earth, genuine, intelligent and funny young woman who embraces her awkwardness. Let’s face it, none of y’all would have turned down a role in Twilight at 16, and she definitely has the talent to make it after the series ends. Seriously, as mentioned above somewhere – do yourselves a favor and see Cake Eaters, even Into The Wild…

    • Mike

I have seen Cake Eaters, Welcome to the Rileys, The Runaways and Into The Wild. She’s alright. Mediocre at best. Maybe she’s better as a supporting actor. Let’s face it, she barely spoke in SWATH and her emotional range is laughable.

  16. Ella

I read interviews of hers on here and see her in public appearances that are cringe-worthy(I was watching the VMAs and I had to turn the channel when she accepted her award for best kiss-SOOOO AWKWARD! I wanted to jump into my screen an kiss her just to end the agony of her begging people to come on stage with her)
Anyway, I see the appearances and the interviews and I wonder why she is an actress at all. She seems to hate everything about it, including the actual acting part! That said, I don’t dislike the kid.
I think it sucks that people are all why was she cast as Snow White, she’s so ugly. She’s not Charlize, but she’s not a troll.

  17. katie

I think she a great actress, and I will watch her in whatever roll she plays!!!

  18. Tee

Kristen was told about the movie by her then co star of Into the Wild, Emile Hirsch who worked with Katherine Hardwick in the past.. Get your facts straight to the persons saying she got the role because of family links. Everyone has their own style of acting.. and hers works for her and seems to work for other people in Hollywood. And I totally agree with her, she stands out.. rather than looking like everyone else who try so hard to look like they stepped out of a magazine.. at least we know what we get when we see her. I admire her!
