Watch: Charlize Theron Reveals First Details About Adopted Son On ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’

"It Just Feels Right"

Since the news broke in March that Charlize Theron adopted a baby boy, Jackson, we have got to see some gorgeous pics of the little man, but we haven’t learned many details about him. Charlize has been very private about the whole matter, but has spoken publicly for the first time about her new family to Ellen DeGeneres revealing how old little Jackson was when she took him home and where he is from. Watch the new mom talk openly about the emotional journey she went on to bring her son into her family.

Jackson was 9 days old when Charlize took him home to her two dogs. She spoke candidly for the first time to Ellen about the fact that she is a single mother, but hasn’t found the adjustment to caring for a baby on her own difficult because she has had her dogs helping her. She also revealed that Jackson is not South African, as some people had believed given that Charlize herself was born there, he is American.

“From the moment this baby came into our home….those two dogs have never been more in love. It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever witnessed,” Charlize said about her two pups welcoming Jackson. “People keep saying, oh you’re a single mom and I’m like actually I’m not. I got two boys (her dogs) helping me out. It’s incredible.”

The new mom also revealed how the journey of adopting her baby son was emotionally taxing, but also “the most beautiful thing.” It took her 2 years to go through the paperwork and process and finally the day came when she could call Jackson her son.

“The process, it took around two years. My mom said the most beautiful thing. I’m going to cry. She said…it took me nine months to fall in love with you were growing in my stomach. She’s like it took you two years to fall in love with this little baby,” Charlize recalled. “It really took two years of just waiting and then one day it’s finally there. It just feels exactly how it’s supposed to feel. I don’t know how to describe it. It just feels right.”

Ah, I just love Charlize. She is such a beautiful woman, inside and out, and I think she is going to make such a great mother. This interview with Ellen really showed her sensitive side, and also her pure joy and love for her son, Jackson. I am so happy for her and her newly expanded family. What is it with all of these white women adopting black babies? Are black babies the new Gucci bag? It’s pretty ridiculous. When will hispanic babies be the new trend?

    • Katie

Your comment is the only thing here that is ridiculous.

i haaaaaaaaaate when people say this!!! it makes my blood boil. yes, she is looking for a fashion accessory. you are totally correct. it has nothing to do with the fact that she wants to love and care for a child (REGARDLESS OF SKIN COLOR) that does not have anyone else to love and care for them. Katie, you are way classier than I am, because all I want to say to that commenter is F U, and go look in the mirror!!!!!

    • Tracy

What an asshole you are…seriously??? This is the 21st century and we got knuckleheads like you making such crazy comments. Did you ever stop to think maybe she wanted a child, and did not care what the skin color of the baby was? Maybe she just had a lot of love to give. It doesn’t matter what our skin color is we all come GOD and we all bleed red. DICK HEAD!

BillyBumbler: I hope you don’t have kids and if you do, I hope someone less ignorant is helping you raise them.

It was great to hear her talk about him and the process. I sort of thought we wouldn’t hear anything because she seems sort of private. He’s a doll and she’s a wonderful person for opening her heart to adoption.

uhh hey–the sentence is fine, but the intention may be off and, well, unintentional.

“Jackson was 9 days old when Charlize took him home to her two dogs.”

Obviously if taken out of context, it would seem that she basically adopted just to bring home another companion for the dogs.

billybumpler,kel..is a very angry jealous hispanic but she will come back to dent it of course.

Congrats on your new little accesory. Pity you forgot about the hundreds of white homless children in your own hometown also looking for a place in this world. You had to do the hollywood thing and adopt a black child purley for fassion purposes. I hope this child gets real love and not treated as a trophy. The africana nation turns their back on you. Best you stay in america unless you whant to be spat on.

  6. Gary

Its amazing Charlize you say your mom said it took 2 years for you to fall in love with this baby yet hes 9 days old. In your own hometown of benoni south africa there are white homless children that did not even get a visit from you since your rise to fame. Infact you have never even paid them a thought. And yet they are your bigest fans. WHY ARE THEY EXCLUDED FROM YOUR OUTREACH PROGRAM. They may be white but they are african since they were born in africa. These children are traped in a country that hates them, WHITE CHILDREN IN AFRICA NEVER GET ADOPTED.

  7. I always liked Ms. Theron…now I’m a bigger fan. My son is adopted too. The adoption process includes a lot of ups and downs and involves a lot of soul searching. The idea that one would go through such an emotional journey for two years in order to obtain a fashion accessory is ludicrous. It takes a strong grounded person to raise an adopted child. You go girl!

Some of the comments. Wow. Children are children. Black, white, red, orange, blue. It doesn’t matter. -.-
