Phillip Phillips Wins 11th Season Of ‘American Idol’

Next Big Idol?

Last night the sexy 21 year old man with the guitar and double name, Phillip Phillips, took home the title of 2012′s American Idol. His unique voice and style ensured he claimed the 11th season win. Phillip accumulated a huge number of fans this season (a lot of young girls who find him adorable), and even though his competitor in the finale, Jessica Sanchez, has a phenomenal voice (and wowed the judges with her rendition of Whitney Houston’s classic hits) ultimately it came down to Phillip who was most loved by America. They announced on last night’s finale that a record number of people voted this season with 132 million votes! Are you happy that Phillip Phillips won?

If you missed last night’s finale, the show was a star-studded event with special musical guests and performances. Rihanna performed her new single, Where Have You Been and showed off her new dreadlocked look, and Idol judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler got onto the stage as well. J.Lo gave an electric performance of her two new hits, Goin’ In and Follow the Leader, and Steven Tyler joined his band Aerosmith for a highly-anticipated performance of Legendary Child and Walk This Way. You can catch J.Lo’s performance here…

The finalists were also joined on stage for duets with some serious stars. Phillip performed with John Fogerty and Jessica teamed up with Jennifer Holliday. The female contestants sang a group number with Chaka Khan and the boys performed with Neil Diamond. People have their doubts about American Idol, but no one can deny that they have serious star pulling power. Special tributes were also performed in last night’s finale for the late Whitney Houston, Robin Gibb and Donna Summer.

Throughout the season Phillip put his own touch onto familiar songs and then gave us a new song, Home, in the final performance. He has attracted a huge following with his Dave Matthews sounding sexy music, including a whole horde of celebs who were backing him. Even yesterday, Jessica Simpson, tweeted “Crossing my fingers for hot stuff Phillip Phillips!! I want his record NOW!!!” When he was finally crowned the winner and took to the stage to perform his debut single, emotion overwhelmed him and he broke down into tears.

“I wasn’t thinking about anything, not even the song,” he told reporters backstage after the show. “I wasn’t really wanting to sing or anything. I just started thinking about the whole journey and how far all of us have come, and how we’ve made it. It’s so overwhelming…”This doesn’t feel real,” he says. “It’s so unreal. It still hasn’t sunk in yet. It’s such a blessing. I have no idea why this happened. I just want to play music and I’m just a lucky guy.”

Congratulations are in order for Phillip Phillips! I actually think this guy has real talent, and I think we are going to see him really blossom as he steps off the American Idol stage. Let’s just hope that Idol becomes the impetus to truly make him into the star he is and showcase his unique voice and style, rather than hinder him. Watch him perform his debut single here…

He is a crazy talented guy. Like Dave Matthews meets Mumford & Sons. I am actually looking forward to his album! It would have been nice just to see a girl win, but Phillip is much more my style so I am very happy with this.

I heard the last five winners now have been white guys with guitars. American Idol fans certainly have a type.

    • It’s actually middle America that votes more than any other part of the country and they want someone who is controversy free and someone who they wouldn’t mind listening to and have their kids listen to as well. There hasn’t been a female winner since Jordin Sparks and that’s a shame. It’s also a shame that crazy talented people such as Adam Lambert don’t win. The only reason why he didn’t win is because he’s gay. It’s a sad fact to say that middle America is very homophobic. He even had to hide his sexuality while on the show so as not to hurt his chances of doing well. It’s a sad world we live in when people can’t be who they are simply because of other people’s beliefs. I don’t know if Phillip is talented or not. I just go by the way the public votes. I think the public should vote until the final two and then the winner is chosen by the judges. That way the most talented person wins.

I agree, with a judges vote at the end. At the end of the day I guess it really doesn’t matter because not many of the recent winners have done very much (that I’ve seen,to be honest I couldn’t name them) but it all seems to boring and a shame that there are so many people stuck in the same way of thinking.

    • Agreed. I like most of them, but shit. And then most of their “fans” don’t support them after the show.

Phillip deserved to win. He was unique original and refreshing. He was doin his own thing. Jessica is a phenomenal singer but she just mimicked the greats. The most talented person won.

Fools! He won because he was a VoteForTheWorst.com contestant.

p2 isn’t fresh. this has been the same pattern for 5 seasons now.. with jessica, she can sing any song! producers just made her sing old school ballads but have you heard her sing other songs in her youtube channel? she can absolutely do well in other genres than the usual whitney beats. but what can we do right? the young girls do the voting.
