Jake Gyllenhaal Surfaces On The Set Of His New Movie ‘An Enemy’

Jake Gyllenhaal is in Toronto, Canada this week filming his new movie, An Enemy. The first pics have emerged of Jake on set and we have a couple of them for you to enjoy. Javier Gullón penned the adaptation based on the novel The Double by Jose Saramago. The story revolves around a dysfunctional history teacher who accidentally discovers his exact double on a rented DVD, seeks him out and ends up turning both of their lives upside down. I read that Jake is actually going to be playing both himself and his double, so in essence, the two leading characters – double trouble! The more Jake the better, right? Denis Villeneuve, who was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar for his pic Incendies, is on board to direct this new thriller. I’m not sure whether they are going to stay true to the book, The Double, but as I understand it the novel is all about a depressed, divorced history teacher, Tertuliano Máximo Afonso, who discovers he has a doppelganger and against his better judgment, decides to pursue his double. He begins a quest to uncover the man’s identity, and what begins as a whimsical story becomes a twisted thriller.

From the first pics of Jake on set, we can see there is definitely a history teacher look going on. Somewhat disheveled and dressed in only shades of brown, Jake is spotted walking around with a pile of papers and folders under his arm. His facial expression is also anxious and perplexed. While I don’t love the image of him smoking, let’s face it even when Jake is dressed in his boring teacher getup, he still looks good. I’m pretty keen to hear more about this film because the book sounds fascinating. I think I might read it before the movie comes out though… are you excited about this new film for Jake Gyllenhaal?
