Mark Zuckerberg & Priscilla Chan Got Hitched!

Wow, it’s been a big week for Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. On Friday, Zuckerberg took Facebook public by offering up shares of the company on the US stock market … and yesterday, completely out of the blue, he and longtime girlfriend Priscilla Chan got themselves hitched! Zuckerberg and Chan, who have been dating for 9 years (since they met at Harvard University), managed to keep details of their planned nuptials a complete secret … that is, until the couple tied the knot and then updated their Facebook profiles announcing to the world that they were married. Wow! Click below to see the happy newlywedded couple and read some deets about their nuptials.

Newly minted billionaire Mark Zuckerberg had an important status update Saturday evening: Married. The 28-year-old tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, the recently graduated Dr. Priscilla Chen in a private ceremony at the couple’s home in Palo Alto, Calif. “With all the news that Facebook had been taking up this week, this is the one that no one expected. On the heels of the second largest IPO in history, the CEO gets married,” said Joe Brown, editor for tech blog Gizmodo. Zuckerberg took off his trademark hoodie and donned a suit for the small ceremony held in his backyard. Fewer than 100 people attended. Guests all thought they were there to celebrate Chan’s graduation from medical school. The couple had been planning the ceremony for four or five months, according to a guest authorized to speak on behalf of the couple. Zuckerberg designed a simple ruby wedding ring and Chan had not seen it before the ceremony, the guest said. The wedding feast came from the couple’s favorite Palo Alto restaurants, Palo Alto Sol and Fuki Sushi, and for desert they had Burdick Chocolate “mice,” which Chan and Zuckerberg had on their first date. The couple met at Harvard and had dated for nine years before tying the knot. Chan’s experiences from medical school inspired a new initiative on Facebook to foster organ donations. “She’s going to be a pediatrician so our dinner conversations are often about facebook and kids and the kids that she’s meeting. She’ll see them getting sicker and then all of a sudden an organ becomes available and she comes home and her face is all lit up because someone’s life is going to better because of this,” Zuckerberg told ABC News’ Robin Roberts. The Facebook founder’s wealth soared to $19 billion when he took his company public on Friday.

Awww … well, I guess if you wanna make a big splash about your wedding AFTER the fact, this is the way to do it. I’m actually not surprised that Zuckerberg and Chan managed to keep this news secret. My guess is a very small inner circle of friends knew about the plan and this group of trusted folks managed to keep the tightly held secret. It is INSANE to me that a man can, pretty casually, become a multibillionaire one day and then pull off a completely secret wedding right under the entire world’s collective nose. It is also insane how down to Earth and normal these two look. Priscilla’s dress looks lovely and simple … as does Mark’s suit. At least he didn’t walk down the aisle in a hoodie. Congratulations are deffo in order for these two. May they live a very long, very healthy and continuously successful life together.

It is really nice to see such a famous billionaire marry someone he has been with a long time who is intelligent and successful in their own right. Congrats!

@Eri: I agree. Also,I LOVE how simple the wedding was, especially cause everyone knows how extravagant it could of been.

I’m actually super happy for him that he was able to find someone who truly loves him for himself and not his money. She’s been with him from the start! I worry about kajillionaires- how do you know someone truly cares about you? Well, he knows, and she does. Congrats to them and hope they live happily ever after!

I really like how low-key they are despite being so young and famous.
