Last night a huge number of celebs hit up New York City and glammed themselves to the max to walk the staired red carpet for the 2012 Met Gala. The ball is a huge annual event at the Metropolitan Museum Of Art, pretty much always knows as The Met, and has come to be known as fashion’s Oscars. It really is the one night of the year when you get all of Hollywood and all of the biggest names in fashion on the one red carpet together. This year Anna Wintour, Miuccia Prada and Carey Mulligan welcomed the most glamorous people on the planet to the Costume Institute’s annual ball. The theme this year was a celebration of Prada as well as Elsa Schiaparelli, who together comprise the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Impossible Conversations.” Check out our MASSIVE gallery of fashion to see who wore what delectable creations and inventions.
The Met Gala is always high fashion and you tend to get huge hits and huge misses, whereas at the Oscars, which is notoriously more conservative, you get less impact. At the Met Gala you’re guaranteed some kind of impact. I always LOVE to see what comes out each year because it truly is a celebration of fashion, in all it’s glory and at time ridiculousness.
The stand out for me this year was Beyoncé who wore a dramatic black lace Givenchy creation which was almost completely sheer from top to bottom. Seriously, you could see the whole shape of Bey’s lower body. It was a lot racier, and ‘in your face’ than we have come to expect from Bey in recent times, which is why I loved it. She totally embraced the theme and vision that is the Met Gala. What do you think of Bey’s outfit?
And just to show you the true spectrum of fashion that hits the Met Gala red carpet…is Kirsten Dunst channeling Mrs Claus?
There was even another Angelina Jolie “leg” moment by model Anja Rubik.. Ouch!
Biggest fashion fail of the night IMHO was Marc Jacobs. What was with the black lace jumpsuit and white boxer concoction? Was he trying to be ironic?
