Now that we know, officially, that Lindsay Lohan is on the career comeback trail with a starring role as Elizabeth Taylor in an upcoming made for Lifetime TV movie, I think it’s safe to say that she is genuinely interested in turning her life around. It could take YEARS for Lindsay to undue all the damage that she’s done to her career before people start to take her seriously … or, she could just take a quick shortcut and try to clean up her image by hanging out with respectable folks. Over the weekend, Lindsay was spotted in the close company of famed director Woody Allen. Might he have a plan to help revive her career? HMMM.
Woody Allen is known for turning Hollywood starlets into respectable actresses, now perhaps he is planning to work his cinematic magic on the faltering career of Lindsay Lohan. The Oscar-winning writer and director, 76, and his wife Soon-Yi, 41, were spotted having dinner with the 25-year-old actress last night at Philippe Chow restaurant in New York City. She was in pretty pure pastels to boot but today Lindsay was back in black and back to her old tricks as she visited high-end purveyors of kinky lingerie and sex toys, Kiki De Montparnasse in Soho. Wearing a white dress, tights, a knee length blue and white coat, and grey pumps, Lindsay looked like she was ready for business. Later she was seen leaving the restaurant with Allen’s wife, seconds after the director walked outside. Lately Allen has been on a winning streak, earning an Academy Award for writing last year’s romantic dramedy Midnight in Paris. And in 2008 he directed Penelope Cruz to an Academy Award winning performance in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Perhaps he is considering breathing new Life into Lindsay’s acting career. The troubled starlet is in New York after a trip to Washington last weekend for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. When she returns to Los Angeles, she will be gearing up to portray Elizabeth Taylor after landing the lead role in upcoming Lifetime movie Liz & Dick.
I mean … what? True, Woody Allen has a knack for helping young actresses achieve cinematic success but … there are limits to his ability to work his magic. I’m not at all surprised that Woody would want to reach out and help Lindsay with her career, primarily because he strikes me as the kind of man who enjoys that kind of notoriety. I don’t have the confidence, tho, that he will be able to fix her career for her. It’s possible, yes. Is it likely? I don’t think so. We’ll have to wait and see if anything comes of this dinner date but … if I were a betting man, I’d put money down on an attempt by Woody Allen to revive Lindsay Lohan‘s career. How about you?
