Alanis Morissette Has Named Her New Album ‘Havoc And Bright Lights’

Her New Single Will be Released May 15

Last month we learned that Alanis Morissette is planning the release of a new album and today we not only learn the exact release date but we also learn the album’s title and full tracklisting. The album, titled Havoc and Bright Lights, has been pushed back from its original June release to August 28 and the first single, Guardian, will be released on May 15. The standard version of the album will include 12 songs but there may be a deluxe version that includes more bonus tracks. Alanis Morissette’s next album will be her first release outside of Warner Music Group as Collective Sounds issues “Havoc and Bright Lights” on Aug. 28. It’s her seventh studio album and first release in four years. Guy Sigsworth, who has worked with Morissette, Madonna and Britney Spears, and Joe Chiccarelli, who engineered recordings for Frank Zappa, the Shins and Grace Potter, produced. The first single, “Guardian,” will be available on iTunes on May 15, four days after it is shipped to radio. Morissette is managed by the Collective, which started a label last year with former Warner Bros. executive Tom “Grover” Biery at the helm. Sony’s RED distributes Collective Sounds. “This record, as always, is a snapshot of what I currently obsess about, care about, and what strikes me at 4 in the morning in my most introspective moments,” Morissette said in a statement. “It is my emotional, psychological, social and philosophical commentary through song.” Her last album, 2008′s “Flavors of Entanglement,” hit No. 8 on the Billboard Top 200. Morissette is, of course, best known for “Jagged Little Pill,” the 1995 album that has sold 14.7 million copies in the United States, according to Soundscan. It is the third biggest-selling album since Soundscan started tracking sales in 1991.

As you may recall, last week we got to hear a new Alanis song titled Magical Child in full but, as you can see, it is not included on Havoc and Bright Lights. It’s possible that it may be included on a deluxe version of the album (if there is a deluxe version of the album) but my guess is that it will only be available on the compilation album Every Mother Counts Volume 2. I, along with many of you, were VERY excited at the prospect of a new Alanis album next month but I don’t mind waiting a couple of extra months for its release. We’ll get the new single shortly so, I’m satisfied. This is great news, I can’t wait to hear new Alanis music!! And now we know where to expect it ;)

I’m not a Starbucks kind of gal, but I might have to get there this month to pick up Every Mother Counts. I can’t wait to hear her new album in August!

Alongside Tori Amos and Shirley Manson, Alanis Morissette is one of my goddesses of music and I am so excited for her new album. If there’s anyone more excited by me, it’s my partner who is obsessed with the woman and will surely pee himself with the news.

  3. Yay! More Alanis! I hope she does more writing. I loved what she posted online a few months ago.

I guess the thing I love the most about Alanis’s music is how versatile she is. She has done songs for 3 different sound tracks which vary greatly from her album music. She can do pop, new age, rock (both heavy and light), symphonic, and the style that only she can create/produce. On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the highest) She clearly deserves at least a 9.8. Her intuitive nature, kind & light presence, forward way of thinking, and way of showing anger without directing it at the particulars makes me wish more people could be like her. She has been a mentor and a teacher. It makes me happy that she is bringing out a new album. I was worried her family life would make it not possible for her to continue writing/singing/composing though these fears were misplaced. From what I have heard of her new album I believe this could be the best one yet. I also thing her last album (Flavors of Entanglement) was better than JLP even though we all loved the JLP album extensively.
