We heard in March that a new Carrie remake is in the works. Stephen King’s novel was made into a film in 1976, then adapted in 2002, and now it is being remade again.Chloe Moretz is already set to play the title character, Carrie. Today we have learned that Julianne Moore has been offered the role of the nightmarish religious fanatic mother, Margaret White, the role that Piper Laurie received an Oscar nomination for. Do you think this could be a good role for Julianne?
Julianne Moore has just finished playing Sarah Palin in the film Game Change, and now may be moving onto Stephen King. The original movie in the 70’s received huge acclaim and both Sissy Spacek, who played Carrie White, and Piper Laurie, who played Margaret, got Oscar nominations. John Travolta also starred in the 1976 version.
A lot of people will be assuming that the 2012 remake will be aiming to hit those same high stakes. There is no doubt that the role of Carrie is a great character for an excellent actress. The painfully shy and abused girl with telekinetic powers is made for some powerful acting. Her relationship with her mother is also critical to the story. Piper Laurie was great as Margaret White so Julianne Moore would be aiming high in this role. In the 2002 version, Angela Bettis and Patricia Clarkson were also both good. Do you think it is good casting to have Julianne Moore and Chloe Moretz in the latest remake? I’m just keen to see what they’re planning to do with yet another remake of the classic story – what do you think will be different this time around?0
