First Listen: Alanis Morissette, ‘Magical Child’

Last week we learned the exciting news that Alanis Morissette is planning the release of a new album this year (it was originally reported that the as-yet untitled album would be out in June but now I’m are hearing that it may not come out until September) but today we get to hear a NEW song from Alanis, like, right now. Alanis penned the track Magical Child for a compilation album titled Every Mother Counts Volume 2. It’s unclear if the track will be featured on Alanis’s new album but … the more music the merrier. Take a listen to Magical Child below.

I understand this song was produced by Alanis’s longtime collaborator Guy Sigworth. It’s pretty. I like that it has a bit of a lullaby feel to it … apropos for a song titled Magical Child. This is a nice taste of new Alanis music … but I hope it’s not included on her upcoming new album. It’s not that I don’t like this song, because I do … I’d just rather we get as much new Alanis music as possible. What do y’all think of Magical Child? Do you like? Does this song get you even more excited for more new Alanis music to come?

Alanis is one of my favorite artists ever. I love everything she’s put out so far. This is no exception. It’s really pretty.

I can not wait for her album to drop! It’s been far too long since we’ve been blessed with her lovely voice. :D

I love Alanis – I think she’s very talented. This song is pretty, altho I also can’t wait to hear more of her gritty, rockish songs on the new album.

I have loved Alanis since back in the “Too Hot” days.( Youtube it!) I love this song, can’t wait to hear the whole album!

    • completely agree. Maybe wish it was just an acoustic guitar or something…. it’s a little too *magical* for me.

This makes me want to bust out “Jagged Little Pill”, albeit the albums (so far) seem worlds apart. You can’t really cathartically rip the stuffing out of your pillow while listening to this song, but this song evokes serenity and equilibrium (rebirth, maybe). I don’t know. This could be the 3 mimosas talking, so bear with me.
