Lifetime TV Confirms That Lindsay Lohan Will Play Elizabeth Taylor

It's Official

Back in February we first learned that Lindsay Lohan had nabbed the role of Elizabeth Taylor in an upcoming Lifetime TV movie formerly titled Elizabeth & Richard: A Love Story (it has since been renamed Liz & Dick). At the time, we heard that Lindsay was seriously prepping for the role but there was NO official confirmation from anyone that she had actually won the role. Today we hear from Lifetime TV officially that L. Lo will play the late Elizabeth Taylor in a made-for-TV biopic about her life. Like it or not, we now know officially that Lindsay will portray Liz on the small screen.

Spritz some “White Diamonds” in the air: Lindsay Lohan will play Elizabeth Taylor in a Lifetime biopic, the network announced Monday. The actress will star as the Hollywood icon in “Liz & Dick,” a TV movie based Taylor’s romance with Richard Burton — the only man Taylor loved enough to marry and divorce twice. The couple met on the set of “Cleopatra,” with Taylor playing the eyeliner-heavy queen against Burton’s Marc Antony. Production is set to begin in early June in Los Angeles and LiLo might be as happy as she was the day her legal troubles ended last month after five years of court visits and questionable pantsuits judging from her statement: “I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor. She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role” … It’s the latest movement in Lohan’s comeback trail — the troubled actress hosted “Saturday Night Live” in March. She is also slated to guest star on “Glee” next month, playing a meta version of herself while serving as a judge during a nationals competition. “We are thrilled Lindsay will portray beloved Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor,” Lifetime executive vice president of programming Rob Sharenow said. “She is one of the rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue to capture the spirit of such a provocative icon.”

Welp, it’s official. You know, even tho there was all this talk about Lindsay playing Liz, I don’t think I really wanted to believe it … until now. I know that Lindsay has been working really hard on her comeback (even tho she really hasn’t done anything yet) and I really do want her to succeed. I just fear that playing an icon like Elizabeth Taylor might be a little much … for even the most seasoned actress, to be honest. Taylor just passed away last year … and now they’re already making a movie about her life, starring Lindsay Lohan. I like to be positive and I like to look on the bright side but … I dunno. I have to say, I really hate the title Liz & Dick. It makes Elizabeth Taylor‘s love story with Richard Burton sound seamy. But … it’s happening. L. Lo as Elizabeth in Liz & Dick is really happening. I guess next we’ll be hearing about the actor cast to play Burton opposite Lohan‘s Taylor. I think by the time we find out who they cast for the male lead, we’ll have a better understanding of how the movie will turn out.

    worst casting ever

  2. i totally agree, trent. not sure who is managing her, because lindsay should not be put under this much pressure right after she finished being on probation. ppl are going to harshly criticize her. its not going to be good for her self-esteem. rosie o’donell just said some harsh words on the today show about lindsay not being ready at all and that she needs to get away from Hollywood for a while. is he mom still her manager? that needs to stop. she needs better ppl around her in her professional life.

…do they really think a movie starring Lindsey Lohan is going to be successful?

  4. amhi

i have my doubts that she has changed enough to actually see this through. she has a reputation for being really difficult to work with and being unreliable so i guess we will see how serious she is about making a comeback

  5. Jstar

I still think this is a really bad idea. I have never thought she has enough acting talent to pull off something like this…

  6. Jesse

I think it’ll get high ratings but for all the wrong reasons. Sad because she can act. Or could act.

  7. craig

The only iteration of Liz should could convincingly play is the boozy Virginia Woolf era…

Lifetime use to be television about woman but not its television about crap. Like Dances mom’s anyone. Then they have kim kardashian on my favorite Lifetime TV show “Drop dead diva.” Not to mention the Jennifer Love hewitt crap. The network has gone down hill and this is the latest of a network falling into the hole

This really shook me up. It’s just not right. Doesn’t sit well with me.
Of course for Lohan it’s going to be big and a comeback and all the glory and fame and money… but this is SOOO SO SO SO DISRESPECTFUL towards Elizabeth Taylor. I will NOT be watching it.

It just doesn’t sound right either. Taylor and Lohan in one sentence rub me the wrong way.
